Catholics believe:

Mortal sin is a grave infraction of the law of God that destroys the divine life in the soul of the sinner (sanctifying grace), constituting a turn away from God. For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must be present: grave matter, full knowledge of the evil of the act, and full consent of the will.

Venial sin is a sin which does not destroy the divine life in the soul, as does mortal sin, though it diminishes and wounds it. Venial sin is the failure to observe necessary moderation, in lesser matters of the moral law, or in grave matters acting without full knowledge or complete consent.

How old are you? If you are not yet an adult and piercing your navel is against the wishes of your parents then you might be violating the Commandment to honor your father and mother.

Dishonoring your parents once in a while would be considered a venial sin.

A warning.

Continual unrepentant venial sin can slowly but surely totally separate you from God, placing you into the state of mortal sin.

Therefore if you are not an adult and continuously dishonor your parents, then piercing your navel may actually be a mortal sin.

With love in Christ.

piercing and tattooing the body are not mortal sins. However our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (when we are in the state of grace) and we are called to treat it like that and so it is best not to disfigure it and put lots of holes in it. I would question the real reason anyone pierces their naval. I would tend to think that by doing this they are feeling a need for attention. It seems for the moment to fill a need in their spiritual life. When we excell in the spiritual life, we no longer want or desire material things. We no longer need to be accepted by others and to do the things that other people do.

Now ...why the hell would that be a mortal sin ??? Would injecting a vaccine also be considered a mortal sin if naval piercing is a mortal sin?

Don´t be ridiculous... Is playing tuba at the bottom of the sea reasonable? There is no sin. Anything good or bad can be measured in the amount of consideration given to your surroundings and neighbors. Naval piercing is just a primitive expression of protohuman embellishment, there´s nothing evolved or intelligent in it

Depends on your religions. Some believe the body is sacred and piercing it would be a sin. However, many religions would not consider it a sin at all.

in W W I when the German Navy sunk the Lusitania by piercing its hull with several torpedos many people considered the loss of innocent life to be a mortal sin -since it was a passenger liner.

It is a sin against one's body, and it is gross in the extreme. All piercing is gross, except, perhaps, for ear piercing which we have come to accept, and which is not as ugly as the other types of piercing (nose, lips, stomach, etc.).

There have been numerous times this or similar questions were asked.. you should try searching before you ask.

There is evidence to both support and discourage piercing in the Bible.
