How come people always say "Jesus H. Christ"? Why not Jesus Q. Christ or Jesus R. Christ or something else? Does the H really stand for something?

In a past question I was told atheists choose eternal torture in hell for not believing in god. So, if a christian is tortured by a Muslim (not killed) for not converting to Islam it is the christian deciding to be tortured? If they were given a chance to convert before the torture began. Or is that logic wrong, and atheists don't go to hell.

How is it from reading the 10 commandments that you get the idea God is telling you to do whatever you feel like doing? Would it then equally be ok to disregard the constitution, because according to you, we should not have to follow laws that don't fit into our own personal way of thinking. Since you prefer Hebrew scriptures, Proverbs 3:5, 6 teaches us to put our trust in Jehovah not our own understanding. Jeremiah 10:23 teaches that God must guide our steps. Jeremiah 17:9 teaches that our hearts are treacherous and not reliable guides. How is it you believe only in parts of the bible and not the rest of it? The Greek scriptures support the Hebrew and the entire bible is the word of God. So, I ask you, who really are you insulting? For those of you who think that you should always trust your own thinking, are you saying that you have never asked anyone for advice? If God intended for us to just go with what we feel on everything then why make rules in the first place?

The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools off when it expands and heats up when it is compressed) or some variant. One student, however, wrote the following:

"First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate that souls are moving into Hell and the rate they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.

As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell.

Most the time when people talk about what God is they just give a list of negative traits or 'all' traits like
-invisible (light passes right though)
-immortal (not mortal)
-all knowing (in contrast with human's limited knowledge)
-all powerful (in contrast with human's limited power)

etc . . .

And when a logical inconsistancy is pointed out--the believer just ignores it or alters his/her definition of God a bit.

In other words god is defined at that which is beyond human limits and comprehension. I can believe that stuff exists beyond human limits and comprehension but I don't think that whatever it is is properly called a 'god'. At least not a 'god' that shows the very human traits of love and wrath and jealousy.

So what is a god--besides the sum of what is beyond human limits and comprehension (which is getting smaller all the time) mixed with a few human traits and emotions?

(Please no stupid comments about how I'm going to hell or that I should FIND god or anything bullshit like that.)

They are unusual looking creatures, I suppose, but I don't think I'd classify them as rip roaring hilarious example of 'god's' sense of humor. If that's his best joke, I think he could do better.

Maybe it is just a matter of taste.

In my last question I was told atheists decide to go to hell by not believing in christianity. Christians chose not to believe what the romans did and were tossed in with the lions. So they chose to be eaten. Is that suicide?

When I have never met a Christian who lives the way Jesus stated believers should live. Are they for real?Or are they just trying to make themselves feel like they have shared the word to unbelievers. Do you christians actually think we are listening to your words and not looking at your lives?!!!

For Christians: NOT preaching or arguing...just questioning a point that I find to be suspect. Would appreciate intelligent answers please (not mindless preaching).

- Chrisitianity claims that the books of the bible are God's words, written through inspiration by man (correct?).

As many of us know the books of the bible were put to paper by men, and it was men that chose which were to be included and excluded into the bible.

So with man's hands over the entire process, what is the assumption that every book is the exact word of God based on?

We all know it is a fact that religion importance and IQ are negativly correlated, such as in uneducated areas, but do you think it is religion that lowers IQ or is it a low IQ that causes the need for religion in the first place.

Generally speaking, one promotes the ethical treatment of people and the other seems to slightly encourage unethical behavior if it results in profit and doesn't break the laws of the country. I'm not saying we should change governments. I'm just pointing out a contradiction that's difficult to live with.

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of your god.

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from lesser life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Trinity god.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" -- including women, children, and trees!

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.
