Religion is for the weak-minded and ignorent, and has caused more violence and hatred worldwide then all other institutions combined.

Religion was created to instill morals on future generations, by fooling people into thinking there was some 'big brother' in the sky that is watching them. Plus, people are afraid of dying, and the unknown, so even a magical made-up story makes them feel better. It's really the opiate of the masses.

And yes, this world would be a much more peaceful place without it.

It is really very simple, we die, and we don't want to, so we make efforts to find the fountain of youth and religion seems to promise eternal life...which is not realistic, as the good old book says, if you want to know about life just look at the animals and learn. On the issue of religion causing violence, I believe that this is a man-made enigma. Control is very important to humans, some more than others, when money doesn't satisfy then the next compulsion is control...of everyone and everything, many use religion as a vehicle for control which creates violence and hatred. Most of the people who profess they do it in God's name don't know God because if they did they would realize he doesn't need their help.

Mainly because Humans are a spiritual group of animals for lack of a better term. We have always prayed to something or other. We seek knowledge from some unknown source to answers we can't answer. We all seek gudiance from an unknown source to show us how to live and how to treat each other. In other words humans are pack animals we need a leader to help us form and shape us into better people. I know it's a stuipd answer but I can't think of better answer to your question. As for people killing each other over religion lets say lack of better understanding, old hates mostly center around ethic groups not religion has caused most of the wars in this world. Religion has been scrape goat for the cause of war. Also if people really sat down and talk they will find out that all religions are all the same have the same common goals and should be respected.

Well everyone has their own opinions. I wouldn't say that it is for the weak-minded or ignorant. Religions do not cause violence. Man causes violence. The top 5 world religions: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism are very different....but there is one principle all religions hold in common: To have peace amongst one another...So in reality many people are not following the "guidelines" of their religion. Religion does not cause violence....MAN does. Religion is more of a comfort and escape for people's troubles...It keeps them optimistic. I'd rather have someone pray or meditate to escape their stress rather than them abusing muscle relaxers, alcohol or drugs...

People use religion and faith oftentimes to describe those things that can't be described otherwise, through scientific means. (So, ignorance then, I guess yes.) Some people feel they need to be a part of a religion in order to be a 'good' person with 'good' morals and that without religion what point would there be to being 'good'. (So, weakness at not being able to control oneself whether there is a God or not, yes.)

However, I don't think that all religions promote violence. What promotes violence is fanatical attitudes and intolerance. Religion did not create these things -- MEN did. Religion was just their crutch, and therefore your scape goat.

Man is the enemy, not religion. (Especially if you consider that man created religion!!!!)

Religion gives some what they need in life. That need
is faith. Faith is the ability to put your trust in something
you can not see, hear, feel or interact with but choose to
believe that is so,

Don't lump the actions of some religious groups that choose
to hurt others as a reflection of religion as a whole. Just as
there are good Christians in the world, there are good Muslims,
Jews, Wiccans and any other denomination you can name.

Religion is not responsible for anything---men and women are responsible. How religion is used is the fault of the individual, not the institution. The institution is no more than rules on paper. If those rules are misapplied, then the individual or individuals that is/are guilty must take responsibility.

Great question- and good point. Religion is the root of all evil. However, believing in God doesn't mean you are religious. Its nice to believe that we were created and are here for a purpose... a purpose driven life. Also, maintaining beliefs or ideas promotes positivity as well as morals.

Well, with or without spiritual guidance humans spiritual side will always be real. There will always be people having spiritual experiences... The Word Of God puts those into perspective... Such as visions, etc. Religion, well, it may be described as just a path... but really were all already experiencing spiritual realms, we just need guidance in that. Those that have come before us that have experienced what we have left notes for us. The Bible is a book of notes left by people that had many spiritual experi. happen to them.
They had enough of them that they had heard God, and gave mankind messages from Him. They were getting to know their creator, just as they knew that we would someday try to do the same. They complied books of what the Holy Spirit spoke to them, as they knew it was of great importance for us to know. I just answered someone with a question about scientology, and not taking medications... False prophets do exist, and they give 'messages,' that are harmful such as do not take medicines if you are ill... The Bible, prophesies from the Holy Spirit- God of Wisdom, says that 'the herbs of the field are for the healing,' as in medicines made from plants... Just that guidance from the written word could have saved a life! That Word was given to man before there were labs to tell us the chemical makeup of plants, wisdom from God will always prove out to be Truth... Our medicines are made from lots of plants, but the thing is that they did not know that when the scripture was written. So two things are done here by reading that scripture... We know God is cool with medicine and us trying to cure illness with chemicals from plants, and that that prophecy was given long before we had pharmacies... so it's a truthfull prophecy that proves man did not write it without actually hearing from God. Prophecy is for a generation that can not believe... 1/3 of the Bible is prophecy, and if you notice... that the Word was correct that many eons before mankind's technology caught up with God... A great book is the Scientific Aproach to Christianity... You'd be amazed at how True the prophesies actually are... so it's great that someone logged them into a book and saved them for modern man...

OK you might as well be the Devil because that's exactly what he would say. All anyone needs, including you apparantly, is to know that God died for you and accept Him into your heart. Everything else you hear or read, like ridiculous made up religions (scientology), is crap.
