Honesty to credit the source. We should always do this.

I would say yes. However there may be more to
it then that. When I look up info for source material,
I don't often quote the entire document.

More often then not, I"m putting the supplied answer
into my own words. But it is still cool to give the
original author the credit that is due.

I do it for both reasons. I do not want to take credit for information that is not mine -- and also, there is usually much more information available that just the "snippet" I provide, which I make clear in my answer when I refer the person to the link.

Both and to offer that same source to reader so that he/she can form their OWN opinions, based on the same information.
