Go to your county recorders office and find out the names of all the people that have owned your home and the land. Then go to the newspaper archives and search on those names and on the address of the home. If anything happened there, hopefully it will have been reported in the newspaper.

You should start by researching the title of your house. Its a matter of public record, and can be found likley at your court house. It takes some work, but start with the names of the previous owner, and go back from who they bought it from, and then back again from who THEY bought it from. Keep record of the names and dates. You will often be able to go back a hundred years or more. The old documents are really detailed.

Then, cross refrence it with obituaries, searches for the names of the people who lived. Old news archives, death records and such. These are also a matter of public record.

Now, if someone died in the house a long time ago, you'll get the info. You really have to start by diving into the history of it, and it can take awhile.

My mom and I did this on a house she owns. It is about 105 years old, we found old plats, and the original plans and eveything. Nothing spooky in her house, but it was an awesome thing, and took us about a week.

Talk to the broker who sold you the house. YOu can also talk to the local store owner, neighbors, priest. Look at old newspapers for any item regarding the house you live in at the local library.

Begin with your local title company, to find out all the past owners. Then, go to your local newspaper to look up if anything happened to any of these people. If all else fails, check with your local historical society.

Call Montel Williams and tell him you need to talk to Sylvia Brown. She can tell you who is in your house if anyone, and don't be afraid they won't hurt you spray for the flies or hang fly strips to catch them.
