I'm an atheist. If I want to learn about the evolution of the Platypus ( something I know nothing about ) I check what those who study that subject have to say, and tentatively accept it as true without demanding any other proof.

Religious people do the same. They consult books on the subject of God, or ask priests. We are no different in HOW we came to believe as we do , just in WHAT we believe.

We cannot morally force others to our viewpoint. I'll come in here and ask questions about things I want to more about from those who have studied. Let's stop using Yahoo as a soapbox to undermine one another.

I don't know why that one guy said that Atheists have no purpose in life because they don't believe in god. Isn't it the other way around?
If you think you know the meaning to life, existence and everything and you think you know what is going to happen when you die and you think you know exactly how you have to act, then you don't have to do any thinking for yourself.
Your whole life is prepackaged and you just have to wait around to die.
If you are an atheist you get to question how and why things work and what purpose it all serves.
So who really has no purpose in life?

It's not like they can just choose to flip a switch and magically believe in Christianity, especially when all they see is a human preaching to them. Everyones' minds work differently, and some people just need more proof than others, just as you're not going to start believing in aliens just because someone claims they've been visited by aliens.

If you don't believe in God or ask "who created God" in an attempt to stump those who believe, can you tell me from where the universe in which we live derived? Or where did the first spark of energy that caused the big bang come from? Or how did "space" get here?

*Disclaimer:
I am not judging anyone. I believe in being fair. As a Christian I have always had to fight for my right to choose to believe that God is a living entity and furthermore (and more extreme) that Jesus Christ is my personal Lord and savior.
I do however love to hear other people’s point of view. So I said all that to say this, if you are going to write that I am “stupid” or that “people that believe this crap are _______”, or say "I can't answer this question because there is no God", please, please, please don't answer. I asked this question for real answers not to be insulted. And likewise, if I have offended anyone with this question I do sincerely apologize.

Thanks!!

One of the many definitions of A religion is: A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion. Again Athiest sounds like a religion to me. By denying 1 thing, ur practicing another. Ur practicing rejection because u needed evidence to disbelieve. Wrong or Right?

I have just always wondered that. People gets so upset and mad at just hearing the word God and the name Jesus. I always think that Jesus must be knocking at their door and they are pushing Him away.

It’s a statistical fact that the higher your education, income, and intelligence, the more likely you are not to believe in a god. For every college student that converts to a religious belief system, 17 college students convert to atheist beliefs.

Atheists have an average intelligence of 25 IQ points above their Christian counterparts. Ever wondered why the USA (75% Christian) is so arrogant, aggressive or violent towards others in this world?

You know, the ones that don't make a lick of sense but just go on and on accusing different people and using bizarre logic. Why is it that every one of these is posted by a god-believer and is usually directed against non-believers and/or different flavours of god-believer?

Are they just speaking in tongues?

(Note if you're accessing this question form Y!A's main screen: it's in reference to the Religion and Siprituality section only. For all I know there are meaningless ramblings in the Pets section and the Laundry and Gardening section too. I just never go there so I wouldn't know...)

since I don't spank my son is that a sin? He is very well behaved, and when he occasionally is naughty, grounding is good enough to make him understand his behavior was unacceptable. I just don't want to spank him. How about adults being spanked for pleasure, is that something god would approve of?

Atheists are always bragging about how they can do it alone and religion is just a crutch. If they don't need to feel that they are just a bunch of molecules that are no more important than a worm, then why do they still need relationships, accomplishments, and modern conveniences, instead of just going off to live in the woods like a monk. And if they don't care that they're just going to be forgotten after they die, why would they need memorials and to have buildings named after them, as if they're actually going to know about it after they're gone. Doesn't Darwinism and evolution say that we're just survival machines, and that things like love or meaning are just a product of fear of the unknown and meaninglessness of life. It's not that atheists don't need any meaning in their lives, they just don't want a god that makes them feel guilty about pleasures like having sex before marriage or watching pornography.

If people impose Jesus on Lifes by simply talking about the Lord. Don't Athias people impose on believing in nothing like a practice?
And Wouldnt that make them a religion?

(by the way I love the Lord, and we will all see what happens the day we die)
