The religious person and the hardcore atheist are BOTH excluding possibilities.
Both of the following statements demand universal proof that is not available:
1. There is no God.
2. There is certainly a God.
Therefore, both statements are statements of faith. The sensible, open-minded option is agnosticism. It leaves open all possibilities.
Also, the definition you provided for "religion" is problematic, limited: Some Christians (in belief) aren't actively devoted to his or her belief system; may not even talk about Jesus to others, or even go to church.
Likewise, an atheist may not discuss his or her belief (or lack of belief) regularly, or with much fervor.

Wrong. A religion is not a cause, princple, or activity pursued with zeal or devotion. A religion is a devotion to a HIGHER power/afterlife, and belief in that. Atheism, again, denies those.

I need no evidence to disbelieve. No one should. I need evidence to *believe*. That's called sanity, my friend, and it's a marvelous thing. Besides, if you use every definition of religion, you can make *ANYTHING* a person believes out to be "religion". Believe that the sky is blue? Religion. Believe that you'll have a hamburger for lunch today? Religion.

I'm not a follower of atheism..or a hardcore follower of any religion really...but here are my thoughts...and may any atheist feel free to counter me :)
To me, atheism is the belief in no god....it is a belief...part of religion to me seems to be about beliefs in or about gods...so I kind of see it as a pseudo-religion.
I associate religion with beliefs, and I think we all have beliefs (if that be no god, 1 god, or 5000 gods) to me, everyone follows a religion of sorts, even if it's just passively, by just believing in something.
I suppose with anything, it depends on which definition is used and how it is used.
Though I disagree with your whole needed evidence to disbelieve thing. I don't think any religion needs evidence for any of their belief...it's a belief... And I don't think atheism needs evidence to disbelieve.

Atheism is lack of belief in a god. Religion is belief in a god. I fail to see the connection. You are using a definition that does not apply to what you are saying. If I go to the grocery store religiously every week does that mean that I follow the religion of the grocery store? No.

I don't deny anything, I don't think I know the answers. I am agnostic!!! How is that a religion? Everyone should be agnostic, and everyone deep down probably is, we ALL don't know because no one has ever died before. To say you know the meaning of life, the greatest mystery of all, is the height of arrogant self-righteousness

Not true, by denying one thing you are not necessarily practicing any thing. Most atheist aren't conscientious or devoted.

Sure why not.
You can call aethism a religion of not believing in made up entities.
Aethism isn't nihilism. Aethiests believe in some things, just not deities.
