I don't know why that one guy said that Atheists have no purpose in life because they don't believe in god. Isn't it the other way around?
If you think you know the meaning to life, existence and everything and you think you know what is going to happen when you die and you think you know exactly how you have to act, then you don't have to do any thinking for yourself.
Your whole life is prepackaged and you just have to wait around to die.
If you are an atheist you get to question how and why things work and what purpose it all serves.
So who really has no purpose in life?

No, it's not true. If I am a believer in Christ, my purpose is to do what He calls me to do, and to excel at seeking His will (his individual will for me as an individual). And it can be terribly exciting. A lot of the fun is seeing how God is going to do something (how He's going to provide for my mission trip to Asia, how He's going to provide for my needs for this, that, or the other thing etc.), but I know where God guides God provides. There are many other things as well, the excitement of seeing someone's life come alive when they come to know God personally, and to see Him working in their life. This is anything but purposeless or meaningless. This is God showing Himself in so many ways to His creations - those who are His.

I think both of us (Christians and atheists) can say that we have a purpose (we can both actually think this also), but with Christians, our purpose actually has meaning.

If you're an atheist, you could say your purpose is finding some actual mechanism and/or some actual proof for evolution (so it will no longer just be a fairy tale made up to avoid having to deal with the fact that you are accountable to God one day for what you have done (and failed to do) with your life).

For an atheist, altho you can maybe claim a purpose, your purpose has no meaning.

If you really believe in atheism, you feel that life is just a pointless and cruel joke and nothing really means anything.

If life on earth [including you] is just a cosmic mistake [as atheists necessarily believe], then nothing matters, either in the short OR the long run. There is also no right or wrong, if life is a cosmic mistake and nothing matters.

And then [for atheists] right and wrong are determined by a vote, they are merely opinion, a matter of preference (if they exist at all).

And so you can justify anything. You can do the Columbine thing and kill other people, cause if nothing matters or means anything (and in atheism, that's the case), then why not? What's to lose by doing something like Columbine? It's no biggie in the long run, right?

Everyone has a purpose in life.

Christians don't know all the answers. Neither do athiests.

Just because you believe in something doesn't mean you still can't "question how and why things work and what purpose it all serves."

The Bible doesn't give you answers to EVERYTHING. Its more like a guide w/ rules to follow, personal lessons, etc.

Everyone has a purpose in life, although they don't figure it out right away. That's mean to say that certain people have a purpose and everybody else does. That's very unfair and narrow-minded. I'm not defending the Christians but you shouldn't put an entire religion down because you don't like it.

Of course Christians have a purpose in life, and I would hazard alot of their purpose is to get into heaven.

You need to carefully examine what is being said, just because they would appear mutually exclusive at first glance (which isn't even the case here) they aren't necessarily.

Christians can't just wait around to die, they're supposed to be going out and spreading the word and doing good in the world... well at least spreading the word.

We most certainly do not know all the answers. That is why we go to church, some of us three times a week, to seek answers so we can pass them on. That is what the Bible says we must do. Also, I can tell you that as an atheist, you will have lots of time to ponder the works and purposes of anything you choose, but I think you will probably be too thirsty to care.

I don't think it is necessary for anyone to pass judgments onto anyone else. If Christians actually live their lives as their God commands, isn't everyone around them better off as well?

The term atheist is not synonymous with anti christian behavior, just non-biblical belief system. They can and certainly are in many cases nice people who treat others with respect, just as "good" Christians do.

Seems like they could agree to get along for the most part. It is always the antagonists in the groups that feel they need to not only push their beliefs on everyone else, but belittle the beliefs of others.

No offense, Ludd_Will_Destroy, but that includes you, at least in this particular question.

IMO, only of course.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble...Christians do have a purpose in this life...

Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

What is the gospel we are to preach?

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Christians only purpose in life is to go to church (social gathering), be a good "witness"- no, not by feeding the hungry or clothing and helping the homeless, no charity (good works) or anything like that, but to annoy non-believers outside of church telling them how they need to believe just as they do.
They also live to stuff their faces with food, oh and wait to die.--but notice how none of them, quite suspiciously, wants to even with the assurance of what awaits them.......

God has given us all Free Will. You can choose to believe and do whatever you like.... however, there are consequences to our choices and actions.

The purpose for life...is to Know God...to Love God...and to Serve God. Thats it.

Anything else makes us the center of the universe and that is wrong.
