Sura 5:51

"Believers, take neither the Jews nor the Christians for your friends. They are friends with one another. Whoever of you seeks their friendship shall become one of their number. God does not guide the wrongdoers." (Dawood)

" O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for friends. They are friends one to another. He among you who taketh them for friends is (one) of them. Lo! Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk." (Pickthall)

This was from an email sent to me in regards to my answering a question that Muslims could be friends with Christians and Jews and Muslim men could even marry them. I don't know enough about the verses in the quran to answer him back and it got me wondering about this as it's a contradiction. Thanks for any help.

God has someone in the world for all of us, is He going to guide both of them together or do we have to look?

What if they are in like China or something, how are you supposed to find her/him :s.

It seems an awkward question but my uncle who lives in Russia married a Christian woman 13 years ago and she refused to convert to Islam. They have one daughter and one son. He couldn't force his wife to convert and he didn't want to diveorce her because of his children. My uncle leaves hom early in the morning and goes back at night and he doesn't have a chance to see his children and teach them about Islam. The children stay with their mother and they think they are christians. They don't know anything about Islam.

Would it be more logical to have Islam passed by mother because the mother is the one who spends most of her time with her children and teaches them?

O you who believe! Obey Allâh and obey the Messenger (Muhammad ), and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allâh and His Messenger (), if you believe in Allâh and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination. 4:59

I hear all the time that Allah looks at your heart, not your body.

Then I started thinking about how I never hear anyone say "wow, he/she is a good person" it's always "wow, he/she is hot".

Looks like a lot of the time the people that put the outside as #1 end up not being happy, but the people that put the inside as #1 are usually the ones that end up happier.

I have seen many elders who expect their youngster to greet them first. even if the elder is of 60 and the other person is 45 the elder expects a Salam from the younger one first.
I know someone, this boy is very good in saying salam to whoever he sees. but once he forgot to say Salam to his uncle because he was surrounded by people, That uncle didn't talk to him for weeks, WHY? because this young man didn't say salam to him.

We should teach our children to say Salam first and as swiftly as they can,so that they can understand Islam and the importance of Assalam-u-alaikum in Islam. but why some, infact many people takes this on their egos when the other person forgets to say Salam. They literally wait for the younger one to say salam first.
Please make me understand this concept.
I believe anyone can say Salam first, there is sawab anyhow.~!

I want to give an Eid present to a Muslim co-worker (who's a dear friend) and her family. I know that Muslims cannot have anything containing alcohol or non-halal animal products (like gelatine or lard). My friend has also found out that she's lactose intolerant. I have started putting together a basket of food goodies - can anyone tell me if these would be acceptable (or has any other suggestions)?

- Bottle of alcohol-free sparkling elderflower presse drink
- Home-made fruit and nut cookies (no animal fats)
- Dairy-free chocolates from the health store
- Home-made spiced pineapple chutney

I know here in the US there are laws about slaughtering. For example if a rancher wants to slaughter a cow he has to contact a butcher shop licensed to do so and have them hang it in the freezer for a certain number of days to age before processing the meat. Inchaallah my husband will be with me in America next year for Eid and we are curious about how the slaughtering of the sheep is handled. Can Muslims who live here in the USA tell me how you handle this situation.

Mine is...

Abu Huraira reported that a person came to Allah, 's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and said: Who among the people is most deserving of a fine treatment from my hand? He said: Your mother. He again said: Then who (is the next one)? He said: Again it is your mother (who deserves the best treatment from you). He said: Then who (is the next one)? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Again, it is your mother. He (again) said: Then who? Thereupon he said: Then it is your father.

ok so today i was in Manhattan with my non-Muslim family (catholics and Jews)....around maghrib time, we were in a nice chinese restaurant eating...there really wasn't any place i could pray, unless i wanted to pray in front of my ENTIRE family...i COULDVE, theoretically, done that...but i wouldd have caused extreme stress among them, and embarrassed them all by doing so. i would be embarrassed and therefore distracted in my prayer...and i most likely would have been interrupted. So i missed maghrib prayer and made qada maghrib prayer when i got home. Was this a legitimate excuse? I dont really see how i couldve prayed.
hahaha to pray Asr, i went into a fancy department store, picked up a random dress, and prayed in the dressing room xD unfortunately i didnt have any such place for maghrib...
would it have been better for me to just have prayed at the restaurant? I really dont see how i could have done that =/
i have had to do this a few times, cuz of no proper place to pray...ugh
