I want to give an Eid present to a Muslim co-worker (who's a dear friend) and her family. I know that Muslims cannot have anything containing alcohol or non-halal animal products (like gelatine or lard). My friend has also found out that she's lactose intolerant. I have started putting together a basket of food goodies - can anyone tell me if these would be acceptable (or has any other suggestions)?
- Bottle of alcohol-free sparkling elderflower presse drink
- Home-made fruit and nut cookies (no animal fats)
- Dairy-free chocolates from the health store
- Home-made spiced pineapple chutney

Sorry, forgot to add that I'm in the UK and according to this link, Eid is around 20th December (that's what the Muslims I know tell me):

sounds all pretty good to me. most muslims example from morocco love love love a type of cake i have only seen made in italian bakeries , it is layers of crispy filo dough very as long as it doesnt have the pork, enzymes or geletin or lard, animal rennet. i am not sure on the flower drink , never heard of it., just remember you dont have to go to extremes , we can eat all you eat and drink all you drink as long as it doesnt contain the animal and pork ingredients and no alcohol of course. but most muslims dont like drinks to look or resemble wine. so if the flower drink comes in a wine looking bottel as sparkling cider and most fruit juices for holidays come she probably wont drink it. trust me i love the white sparking grape from welches in the wine bottle, and my husband refuses to buy it, he had a fit when my friend gave us some cider in the fancy wine bottle . when they left he dumped it out because the bottle resembled wine. even though our friends who gave it to us were muslim and of course no alchohol.

Looks good. Maybe some fruits too. In the winter fruit really seems to brighten things up. Maybe herbal tea? I think what you have is good and very kind of you!!!!!!!
edit: *RE* f below me is referring to Mille Feuille also known as Napolean in the US. You can find it at French bakeries and othe fancy places. And I agree with her about the sparkling drink, if the bottle looks that way a lot of Muslims won't like it. I love sparkling grape juice and other juices like it but the often come in those bottles and my husband won't even buy it.

I think those are great!!!
But I also suggest:
**fresh fruit (apples, oranges, bananas, peaches, pears, etc.)
**dehydrated fruits (banana chips, apricots, apple chips, pineapple chips, etc.)
**bags of mixed nuts
**assorted crackers
**assorted flavored tea bags
This also has a lot to do with how BIG you want to make the basket. But I hope these suggestions helped :)

Salam - TEA PARTY ANYONE!
O LORD, give me to enjoy moderation,
make me into one of the people of
right behaviour, the proofs of right
conduct, and the servants of
righteousness, and provide me with
triumph at the place of Return and
safety from the Ambush!
Amen
