ok so today i was in Manhattan with my non-Muslim family (catholics and Jews)....around maghrib time, we were in a nice chinese restaurant eating...there really wasn't any place i could pray, unless i wanted to pray in front of my ENTIRE family...i COULDVE, theoretically, done that...but i wouldd have caused extreme stress among them, and embarrassed them all by doing so. i would be embarrassed and therefore distracted in my prayer...and i most likely would have been interrupted. So i missed maghrib prayer and made qada maghrib prayer when i got home. Was this a legitimate excuse? I dont really see how i couldve prayed.
hahaha to pray Asr, i went into a fancy department store, picked up a random dress, and prayed in the dressing room xD unfortunately i didnt have any such place for maghrib...
would it have been better for me to just have prayed at the restaurant? I really dont see how i could have done that =/
i have had to do this a few times, cuz of no proper place to pray...ugh

lol Lance: I LOVE my religious practices, or else i would not have converted to this beautiful religion. I already got into 2 fights this night with my sister because she does not like it...i didnt think prostrating in front of her and my entire family would be a good idea =)

you did the right thing.
having myself been in a postion similar to that, i prayed without concentration and a horrible nervous feeling. It is better to be in a place where you can wholeheartedly pray and not be in worry while your speaking to Allah.

yes its a valid excuse. Allah is not blind to not know ur situation. Besides that, u need a clean place to pray your salaat and the Chinese restaurant might not have bn so clean.
So Just pray the Qada namaaz and inshallah allah will accept it
Asalaam-alaikum.

By the way, have u tried the halal gyro on 53rd and 6th ave?Now dats some taste buds tingling food!
and do u know the owner/workers all pray their salaat in the corner. I was so impressed : )

if ur prayer would have made someone uncomfortable in some way then u did the right thing...Allah is watching us and He exactly knows what happened or what were you thinking when you didn't pray..if u prayed Qada then it's all good...don't worry about it...and try not to miss any prayers from now on..!

as long as u pray before midnight your late prayers are valid for the day but if u miss it after midnight it is haram, be careful and try to make prayers on time. take care and salam.

Agree 100% with Umm Ali.

I don't know for sure if it'd be accepted, because it's not really a legitimate excuse, a legitimate excuse would be if you were in the middle of doing surgery as a doctor, or something that you have absolutely no choice, not just because people wouldn't want you to, or they would be embarrassed, that's kind of like them telling you not to pray at all, which would be against Islam and you should do anyways.

Eh, doesn't look like I made much sense, but hopefully it did :S.

Asalam Alaikum dear sister
I don't think it is a valid excuse, Allah knows. In cases like this I go to the car and pray sitting down. But lately I have got up the nerve to pray and not care what others think. Its hard dear sister but you have to do your best.
