What is your family's tradition? How do you celebrate this holiday? My family always have corned beef and cabbage for St. Paddy's. Share with us how you view this holiday. Thank you in advance.

Do you think the 4th of July and St Patrick's day are examples of the Alcohol companies trying to make a profit by promoting it. Or like Valentnes day is promoted by flower companies. You notice how there isn't any major groundhog companies and groundhog day is just another day? Whats your take?

I don't know how many people actually know what they are saying when they talk about O this and Mc that. Mc means son of, so, say somebodys name is McConnell. That particular person is son of Connell. and O means from as in O'Connor means from Connor. Just thought I would check out and see how many people knew that already.

My boyfriend says I am not allowed to pinch him on St. Patrick's Day, because he is Irish and they are exempt from this rule. Has ANYONE else ever heard of this?

He also has a tattoo with green in it (it's a leprechaun), and that supposedly exempts him as well. What do you think????

From a Scottish viewpoint (mine at least) this is all about perpetuating the old Heather, Tartan, Bagpipes, Shortbread etc stereotypes of Scotland. I think people might be misguided enough to think that Scotland is still a quaint wee country stuck in the Victorian Ages. How much do the Americans in New York, or elsewhere actually know about Scotland, is there anyone who is willing to answer that question? Just curious why so many Yanks celebrate this. You are American & not Scottish, same with St Paddy's Day, you are American & not Irish.
