I read that most Irish do not eat corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day, so I was wondering, well, what do they eat then?

"Saint Patrick is most known for driving the snakes from Ireland. It is true there are no snakes in Ireland. As in many old pagan religions, serpent symbols were common and often worshipped. Driving the snakes from Ireland was probably symbolic of putting an end to that pagan practice."

Why is it that we celebrate someone who tore down a country's entire religion because he thought it wasn't the"right" religion. [I'm Irish, but this still doesn't seem reason to celebrate someone.]

I am of course but who else is?
And what is your record of Guinness pints you have drunk in one day?
I'd say mine is about nine but I'm a bit of a light weight.

Supposedly it's St. Patty's Day - but mostly it seems to be an excuse to dye food green and wear green. People who aren't catholic (including me) love this holiday and can't be bothered with all the arguments about who/what/where of St Patrick and what he did or didn't do. So, what are you going to dye green today?

I'm aware of St. Patrick being the patron saint of Ireland and all, but is really a religious observation or just a cultural one?

There seems to be alot of green/ shamrock wearing and heavy drinking, but the significance of the day, other than getting together and partying because you're 'Irish' escapes me. Clue me in.
