Yes, although St.Patrick's Day started in America because people from Ireland wanted to be free from slavery in Ireland. So they came to America.

Many Irish I know wear green on other days than today. Dad's mother was said to be part-Irish, but she did not look Irish. I may have some inside knowledge if I am indeed part-Irish. I do not ever wear green, for it looks awful on me. my brother and sister can wear it, for their coloring is more compatible with it.

Catholics wear green, and Protestants wear orange. That's why a lot of Irish people (Irish people are usually Catholic) hate it when people wear orange on St. Patrick's Day.
