This question is mainly for those who are Irish or of Irish descent. Do you ever get tired of the phrase "Everybody's Irish on St Patrick's Day," and feel your culture being belittled because of it? Or it really don't matter either way? What do you think of American celebration of the holiday?

My boyfriend and I had a slight argument about whether or not you wear green on St. Patrick's Day. I said that if you DON'T, then you'll get pinched and he said that if you DO, you will get pinched. The other patron saints of the British Isles, St George, St Andrew and St David don't have their days celebrated with nearly as much vigour as St Patrick. Why?

Is this just another 'holiday' that has been imported from the USA like 'Halloween' (which should of course be Hallowe'en).
