It is my understanding that Kwanzaa is a celebration of life for Africans and Africian-American peoples. It celebrates their heritage and their lives and the lives of their ancestors, and it is also a chance for families to get together and re connect, as extended family is important. As it should be for everyone. This is my understanding of it, I may well be wrong. However, I also believe that many people have their own interpretation of the meaning behind it. I think the main one is one of love.

It's just celebrated at roughly the same time of year, but not related to the birth of Christ as Christmas is.
