It's a holy holiday for them, and they usually attend masses (at a church) and stuff. They probably eat traditional foods and stuff like that.

Saint Patrick's Day (Irish: Lá 'le Pádraig or Lá Fhéile Pádraig), colloquially Paddy's Day or St. Patty's Day, is the feast day which annually celebrates Saint Patrick (373-493), the patron saint of Ireland, on March 17, the day on which Saint Patrick died.

It is the Irish national holiday and a bank holiday in Northern Ireland and one of the public holidays in the Republic of Ireland and; the overseas territory of Montserrat; and the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. In the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and rest of Canada it is widely celebrated, although not an official holiday.

It is more of a religious feast in the church - much like other religious feasts celebrated here in the USA.

Ireland has capitalized on the American celebrations and tourism by doing things American would expect on the day.

It became a feast day in the Universal Church due to the influence of the Waterford-born Franciscan scholar Luke Wadding, as a member of the commission for the reform of the Breviary [1] in the early part of the 17th century.

In past years the Irish celebrated St. Patrick's day as a religious holiday with church services and a solemn parade. To take advantage of tourism to the country, the holiday became a Festival modelled more after the New York, Chicago and Boston celebrations and today it is a big deal with parades, street performers and the like catering to US and other national tourists with Irish ancestry. There is some conflict about this change within Ireland.

Well some of us wear green too or shamrock...some go to mass, others to the pub...in the cities they have big parades with loads of floats and bands...in country towns/villages they have parades which consist of one or two advertising floats and a load of tractors...not the best fun....so most people in the country go into town to drink...sometimes theres traditional music sessions or ceilis. Its just a time when everyone gets together and has a good time...despite the weather...
