actually St. Patrick was orginally from Wales. The Vikings, whom resided in Ireland, kidnapped him. The forced him into slavery in which he discovered Christianity. A devout Christian, Patrick saw an escape by boat back to Wales. So he took the boat to Wales and there he was free. He then came back to Ireland and set up a missonary style school. He made a pilgramige from his parish to a mountain, he walked the whole 40 miles. There he sat on the top of the mountain and prayed. People today still take the same route St. Patrick took.

I hate to burst your bubble but no-one actually knows where he was born. Some say Cumbria others say Kilpatrick on the Clyde estuary, but there is no way of confirming either. The official line in Ireland is that St Patrick was kidnapped by boat as a young boy from Northern Britain.

I know at some point in early history that the Irish became Scots and the Scots became Irish, so I don't think it actually matters. As to being a slave, Saints are meant to suffer.

Yeah, I knew that. And that he escaped, but eventually returned to Ireland cause God asked him to convert the Irish to Christianity...

didnt know that, very interesting, but he saved a people, so they celebrate him by getting very very drunk (which is so different from the rest of the time for the Irish).
also, Santa Claus is from the Moon.

No. That's mean to kidnap, and make him be a slave. I thought he was Irish. Why do we have the holiday then?

That makes it all the more impressive that he saved the very people who held him captive. I thought he was Welsh though, but it seems certain he was not native to the Emerald Isle.
