My boyfriend says I am not allowed to pinch him on St. Patrick's Day, because he is Irish and they are exempt from this rule. Has ANYONE else ever heard of this?
He also has a tattoo with green in it (it's a leprechaun), and that supposedly exempts him as well. What do you think????

Being half Irish myself, with GREEN eyes, I like to think I am exempt from the rule as well. My mother, being full blooded Irish, claims the Irish are exempt from this rule. However, another person I know of Irish decent (his last name is Walsh) told me that only the Irish should be pinched. So the green leprechaun would exempt your boyfriend from being pinched. As for the Irishness- I would pinch him anyway- its all in fun, and really, how are you going to prove whether or not someone is Irish???

People of Irish heritage have the choice to be exempt from being pinched. The guy has a tattoo of a leprechaun on him for goodness sake! Either way, go have a beer!

The little green leprechaun should exempt him from being pinched. However, being Irish shouldn't. My husband is half Irish and I always pinch him on St. Patrick's Day if he doesn't wear green.

If he has green in his tattoo then I would say that counts as long as you can see the tattoo. As far as not being able to pinch an Irishman, I haven't heard of that before. I'd pinch him anyway just for the heck of it!

The tatoo exempts him, but not the heritage! We all probably have a little bit of Irish in us, somehow, if we could trace our geneology back completely.

people in ireland do not follow this pinching caper, if he was from ireland and is in the states he is prone to being pinced,your turf your custom your rules..............maybe because you know of the tattoo you can't but tell your friends to half at it.
