Do you think the 4th of July and St Patrick's day are examples of the Alcohol companies trying to make a profit by promoting it. Or like Valentnes day is promoted by flower companies. You notice how there isn't any major groundhog companies and groundhog day is just another day? Whats your take?

Definately, with the mother of them all, Christmas, raking in ALL the dough. Don't mean to offend anyone but we take what is supposed to be the true meaning of a holiday and twist it up to justify foolish spending, drunkeness, and sex.

At least someone profits off all that negativity, right?

Definitely, and don't forget the greeting card industry!

Mother's & Father's & Grandparent's Day, Valentine's, Mardis Gras, St Pat's, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving on a lesser level, Christmas, New Year's - all over run by commercialism. I think the public might have caught on with Ground Hogs Day & said enough is enough!

I don't know about 4th of July, that always seemed patriotic to me - no booze, flowers or cards, just a parade, bar-b-que and outdoor activities.

I hope you won't be hurt if I don't wish you Happy St. Patrick's Day. I'm just not into this one.

Think clever marketing. One that stands out, besides the obvious Christmas and Valentine's Day, is Cinco de Mayo, a minor battle against the French occupation in Mexico. The Tequila companies create massive point of sale items in grocery stores and provide bars and restuarants with all sorts of promotions. When last I noticed, profit wasn't a bad word.

I belive that some holidays are just all about money , promotions, and marketing . but there are some holidays that should be an everyday holiday like Mothers Day , Fathers Day , Christmas , Thanksgiving Day Martin Luther King Day ,Because for one thing if a person is a mother or a father you are a mother or a father everyday and should be appreciated not just on one day but on a daily basis, christmas is not all about gifts .but if you give a gift a person should give gifts through the year ,thanksgiving, everyone should be thankful every day of there lives for something . because just when you think your life is bad ther is somebody eles life that is worst than yours so be thankful everyday no matter what MLK Day be proud to be who you are no matter what your race is and be proud that we have come this far to hold hands together valintines is just something to make you spend your money because if u love someone u will shower them with love from the heart more than candy, flowers, jewlery and money don't get me wrong I love all of that but in all essence love comes from the heart

Yes, its buy, buy, buy!
and even the holidays with no booze have sales running in the stores. So its all about profit on holidays, no matter if its booze or furnature sales. I always just stay home and invite a few friends for nachos. Plain old cheddar and tortilla chips is my way of saying "No I will not buy your over-hyped hallmark holiday, I just want some cheese!"

Yes it is up to the shopper what they plan to do about it. If you want to go along with all the hype, go for it. Personally, Christmas is the one time of the year that has always been overated. But I love it, so in spite of what I or you think, it will always be a spending holiday. It comes every year the same time, so you can pick up sale items all year, and when the time comes, your all set, no muss no fuss...

Yes and NO..
We are a social people.. and social events.. are good ..we need to come together to unite ideas, dreams and hopes..and too to remember and honor sacrifices others have made even to their lives for giving us the opportunity to celebrate these occasions.
the sad part is some over indulge in doing the pleasures of and can cause adverse behaviors / consequences ..
but, please don't blame the floral industry ..... being thoughtful and expressing love is never a bad thing..
as for groundhogs... i think we'll just have to wait and see on that one.....

Definitely. Christmas too. And I think it's fine to celebrate all those holidays - have family get-togethers - but why not boycott the "real meaning of..." by not buying booze, flowers and gifts? Find other meaningful times to buy a gift for someone, and you'll look like you really mean it.

Yes, but that's what the public wants. We are always looking for a reason to spend money foolishly and drink. It's a shame we need a hallmark holiday to tell someone that we care about them but that's the way most of us are.

I think companies will capitalize on anything that will turn them a profit...nothing is sacred to them...
