Holidays - September 2006

In 2003 my parents did a major renovation to their home - new siding, a wrap-around porch, landscaping, etc.

My father passed away that December, and never got to see the completed product.

This year, for Christmas for my mom, I'd like to find someone who could take pictures of the house (I would provide) and create a ceramic Christmas village house (the kind that has the light inside). I could provide measurements and all, but I can't seem to find anyone who can do this (and I'd be surprised if SOMEONE wasn't doing this out there in the world).

My mom has several of these houses that she puts up every Christmas, and it would be great to have one that looked just like the house.

Obviously cost is an issue, but I know a custom piece won't be inexpensive. I really just want to find a company or individual who can do this.

Why do we have people in this country (USA) working on Labor Day?
Why are restaurants open on Thanksgiving...to feed people who can't make a turkey? Don't you think those employees would like to be home with their families?
Why do mom's work on Mother's Day, don't you think that they would like to be with their families?

People should be with family and friends on labor day, away from work. They want resturants open and shopping malls, etc., but they never want to work themselves. It's not so much of a company obligation but it seems that people work because they feel obligated by society to be there at work.

Being a teenager, my costume has to be cute and a little revealing. Me and my friend were thinking of being baby dolls- short, frilly dresses, white leggings, white patent leather flats, big eyelashes, pale lips, ribbons in hair, etc. etc. Does that sound like a good idea? Why is it, that on Labor Day, a day that was made to honor the working-class citizen, the large majority of people who are not management or higher still have to work? Why do companies commercialize it so much, that the very people the holiday was made to give a break to have to work even harder? It just doesn't make any sense to me.
