As said above it is now generally a day of rest.
Originally there were labor parades at the beginning of September. Throughout the world Labor Day is celebrated on May 1. And many of the labor unions wanted to celebrate on that day too. But in May of 1886 there were Riots in Chicago. President Garfield did not want May 1 to be a memorial to those riots, so he moved Labor Day to the 1st Monday in September.
In other parts of the world Labor Day is a day of political rallies and statements, but in the US we just have picnics and family gatherings.

Labor Day is the one holiday in the whole year that has nothing to do with race, creed or religion. It is purely and simply, a holiday for the working man (and woman, although there weren't that many of them when Labor Day first began). Labor Day used to be marked by parades through the town, with bands, and end up with big community picnics, sack races, egg and spoon races, three legged races, and all those family type of events.

Labour day is a holiday to honour the nation's workers, especially those in unions . With the advent of union busting since the 70s labour day has become more of an end of summer holiday and the time for the Jerry Lewis MD telethon than what it was originally meant for.

From what I can think of, it is to celebrate those who labor at work the majority of their life. . .just a day to be able to recognize their efforts of working and maintaining a balance in our economy by adding to the workforce and giving back money to the economy by the things they purchase with the money they make from work: a whole cycle of life concept. To get a clearer picture, go to a search engine like yahoo.com, aj.com, or mamma.com and research Labor Day and it will give you all the information you may be seeking.

undesirable undesirable baddd theory! i went on hard artwork day final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days and that i purely have been given to bypass on 3 of the smaller rides (gemini, corkscrew, ability tower) because of the fact the lines for each little thing else became a minimum of two.5 hour wait. Deffinetly wait till after hard artwork day or bypass sometime earlier becasue the entire hard artwork day weekend is horrily crowded

What's the point of ANY holiday or observance?

We commemorate a person or event... Labor day is a "day off" for work, to commemorate the work force of America.

I know I know... it seems funny to NOT WORK to honor working, and that seems a bit like "Having sex for Virginity"... however, working extra hard wouldn't honor anyone! (and accordingly the reward for going to work every day, will be a day off with your family)...

Working for a living... provides a home and "stuff"... but NOBODY on their death bed ever says "I wish I had spent more time in the office".

This day allows them one less day of regret.
