I like the slighty darker shades- burgundy, dark green, accents of gold, maybe a cream color instead of stark white.

I mix it up from year to year.
For the dining room, I like a white tablecloth with silver decorations, even silver candles.
For the tree and outdoor lights, I love the multi-color strings. The clear/white strings are SO overdone, at least in my neighborhood.
For stockings and tree and living room decor, I usually enjoy traditional red and green. It seems that everyone else is trying to be so different, that red and green becomes unusual.

I just bought a small (1 ft.) silver Christmas tree and put shiny pink bulbs on it. It reminds me of something out of the 1950s or the Charlie Brown Christmas special. I have a matching wreath made out of pink and silver balls. I don't decorate my whole house like this, just part of the dining room. Most of my other decorations are the traditional red and green.

I like lots of bright colors. I'd have to say that my main ones are red, green and gold. Lots of lights and ornaments, strings of gold beads on the tree. Greenery and red and green glass balls up the banister. Red ribbons on the fence and front door. I love Christmas! I do use other color ornaments, I just always have the gold beads swagged all around the tree and little red bows all over it as well as many colored ornaments.

When my kids were little, my tree/theme was hodge podge - decorated with every ornament & decoration they made in pre-school and grade school.
As they got older I went with Red & white...santas, snowmen, candycanes, etc. Fun things.
Now that they are grown and my favorite color is purple, I decided to try that. Last year was my first year for my purple tree. I decorate my tree in different shades of purple and gold ornaments, deep purple velvet bows, purple and gold bead garland and have purple lights. My tree skirt is a deep, dark purple velvet and I have a smaller shiney gold one I lay on top of the purple one. It's very classy looking and I get tons of compliments.
My snobby sister-in-law even asked me if I bought my tree that way from a store display. (yeah right, we put it on top of the car and nothing blew off) That was HER way of paying me a compliment ... or maybe it was her way of insulting me thinking I couldn't possibly make such a beautiful tree....hmmmmm

We have an all unicorn Christmas tree. Since unicorns are special to my husband and I, we felt our tree should reflect our passions. We have a custom glass blown topper.
