A friend gave us a check for a significant amount of money at our wedding, but he never signed it. Is there a way we can ask him for another check in the same amount so it can be cashed, or do we have to count our losses here?

I am only 17 and go to school full time, yet some how I manage to come to work on time. I mean, it isn't just like a few times he has done this....it has been more times than I count. He's in his twenties and old enough to know better and to be responsible.

Because I go to school I'm only suppose to work until 10:00 at night on week nights...well, last night I didn't get home until 11:30 (and my work is only about 10 minutes from my house) because I was waiting for him. What is the proper way to handle this considering he is the boss's son?

I'm an atheist so i don't really know what is etiquette for these functions.

If i do get something for the baby, i don't want to get him anything religious, do you have any ideas for a good NON-christian gift?

As much as i would like to get something anti-religious, i will be avoiding this, so sensible answers only please.

I'm also a tightar*e so if a gift is not required let me know...

Thanks all.

Just the other day, I was going to say something but when it came out, the word was completely irrelevant and really embarrassing. The person I was talking to started laughing. Now, about 2 days later, I still keep thinking about it and I'm still really embarrassed. Has this happened to anyone? How and what do you do to get over it?

Rooms To Go invited all employees to there annual semi formal Christmas party sign ups were in the middle of October and then December 1st 2 weeks before they un invited all laborers only corporate office, managers, and sales people are allowed. Are these parties not supposed to be for showing appreciation for your hard work.I guess those who bust there humps every day are not appreciated, only those who push pencils. Every other year these are for every employee. This is wrong 90% of the people going already bought clothing. How can such a big company do this? There bribe is a 50.00 gift card for a restaurant. But then they are by them selves and not able to socialize with the people they are around every day but can not get to know well because they are busy working.

Do I need to get a professional photo taken to send along with the announcement? Is it proper etiquette to even send a photo? How soon before graduation are announcements supposed to be sent?
I am the first person in my family to graduate college so this is new to us. Thanks.

My job in a QA in the meat industry which means that i need to enforce rules all the time so not everyone is happy with me.
My husband used to work here as well and he will be working that night. He quit because of one of the supervisors that i still deal with.
the invitation says that they will either attend a local bar or play games at the receptionists house BYOB.Im not much of a drinker.
We have just had a lecture on working together as a team and even though everyone has included me,i am not sure if i want to go .maybe im just anti-social or maybe i just am sick of the ego's around there and need a break should i go??

We frequent restaurants with servers quite often. Depending on where we go, our bill comes out to anywhere from $10 to $20. If the server is attentive, i.e., refills our drinks, and is at least polite/cordial, we will tip the server $5; however, we have been known to tip $10 if the service goes above and beyond, and one time we tipped $20 (on a $13 or $14 food bill). Do we need to tip more? I can't help but feel that $5 is not enough. I'm sure in the bigger cities like LA and New York, I bet they tip a whole lot more than $5 or $10. (We live in an big college town in Oklahoma -- population 15,000 -- and we have lots of restaurants here. We also occasionally dine in Tulsa as well -- which is a major city of 300,000. Maybe we need to tip more in Tulsa?)

I only want to send one card to my sister and her family. I usually send a card to each of my nieces and one to my nephew, but if I only send one to them, then should I sign it Aunt so and so, or go by my first name only? My sister might get offended if I just sign it by my first name and not Aunt.

I mean, who is the one who holds out the hand, and who is the one who receives the handshake.

Never know whether I am supposed to wait for the other person to hold their hand out, or whether I should be the one who holds my hand out - if you know what I mean

My sister in law is from Mexico and speaks English fairly well, but speaks Spanish fluently and her daughter knows English and Spanish. Is it rude of her to come to my house where we only speak English and converse with her daughter in Spanish? I have asked them to only speak English in my house but I'm not sure if I was being rude, or they were?

I always do, unless they insist (and I mean REALLY insist) that I don't. However, a lot of our guests don't remove their shoes. If they offer, it's tough to say "yes, please do" because you know they don't want to, or they'd just do it. I can't bring myself to ask- so if they don't do it, I just let it go. So far, the best method is to greet them outside and remove my shoes when I come in. Some get the point, others painfully ask if they should and some just march on in.
