Tell your company that you were all just ready to eat, and that you only cooked enough food for four, and if you knew they were coming you would have cooked more, but offer them a coffee, tea, milk, beer, and a snack or whatever...

Alot of times your company will say they just ate, etc... No, it's o.k...etc...

Most people who come unannounced like this will apologize, for coming at this time...

I wouldn't be rude, which some people say to do here...

Or you may never see your company drop by again...

Always remember, we have all dropped in on some old friend or relative or whatever, just because we were in the neighborhood, and wanted to surprise them, and not knowing they were eating, etc...

If the compnay seems to be dropping by around supper time everyday...lol

Well, than...

That's a different story... then you put your foot down...

Just do like I was saying...

You didn't know they were coming, and only cooked for four, but offer them a tea, coffee etc...

and bring them a plate of snacks or something...

Anyway, you'll be fine...

LOL

Ask them to sit in the living room and give them drinks (not alcoholic) while the four of you proceed to eat dinner. Tell the guest "sorry to keep you waiting, but we are starving. Let us finish our dinner before we talk to you."
People who pop in at dinner time or meal time probably do it on purpose to sponge on the host to get a free meal. Don't spoil them by treating them to dinner on such pop-ins. It's disrespectful of them to pop-in on you. If they do it on a regular basis, tell them straight not to come before or after a certain time because it is inconvenient. Let them know in no uncertain terms that they will not get a meal out of you if they are uninvited. As the saying goes......."you teach people how to treat you".

It is so rude to show up at someone's home uninvited. They are showing very poor manners by doing that. However, you are only responsible for your own actions, so if you know them well enough, then be honest with them. If it is your boss or preacher or something, then open up some canned vegetables and make the meal stretch. You have to do the right thing and not embarrass them, even though they are wrong for showing up without an invitation.

I, like everyone else would want to tell them to get out, but realistically, if they are good friends, you aren't going to do that. If they are aquaintances, probably not either.
You can either suck it up and wait til they leave (if kids are involved, then let your kids eat while you entertain). Assuming that it were two adults and two kids, and that your eating and living areas are separate, then one adult can go eat with the kids while the other is with company... and then trade. What I would normally do in that situation, and the guest being close friends is tell them you only made enough for four but will order pizza for everyone instead.... I love pizza!

Politely tell them that you have just prepared dinner and were about to sit down when they arrived. If they had any manners at all they would understand and leave, actually if they had any manners they would not have showed up unannounced. Very rude on their part.

tell them you were just about to eat and that while you would love to invite them in, you just don' have enough for everyone and that maybe you can call to make plans in a few days.

The best way to handle it is to say, "I'm sure you'll understand that it's dinner time and we were just about to sit down. Please excuse us?" That's a very polite way of asking a person to leave instead of inviting them to dinner!

if you haven't started cooking, then don't; order out. Or add some more pasta/potatoes or something to what you are cooking to make it stretch a little further!
