why the locked door??

Question

when entering most establishments with double doors it seems that the door on the left(entering) or the right (exiting) is locked. why the hell do they do that?

i was at a bowling alley for a pizza last night with my daughter and when we left my daughter was to my left and of course i walked into a locked door, man that chaps my ***!

the word hell offends you? my daughter is 22 years old moron. I hate when people on here bust chops when they answer questions. lighten up retard. I wasn't aware that the monistary had internet.

That is a very good question. I just gave you a thumbs up and added your question to my watch list.

I too would like the answer to that as well but I'll take a guess.

Maybe they keep one door locked on days where the temperature outside is either extremely cold or hot.
It may help keep the electric bill down, when it comes to heating or cooling.
Having both doors open constantly WOULD in fact allow more cool or warm air to escape.

That is just a guess. I just can't think of any other reason.

I'll be watching your question to see if anyone out there really knows.

Honestly, whenever that happened where I worked (retail for ten years when I was younger) it was because the person who opened that day was too lazy to unlock both doors. Seriously! The second door usually requires a separate key and has locks that go down into the floor and up into the ceiling.

Ususally customers would say something (or run into it) and we'd go unlock it.

I've also seen the same situation in stores when I'm shopping. Stupid. Bugs me too. Has nothing to do with heating/AC. Seems like a fire hazard to have one locked.

yea, I believe it's just a matter of the person opening the doors not taking the time open the other door. Most doors are bit of a pain to open for one reason or another and people who work at a place don't see things from a customers point of view.

How does "hell" have anything to do with your question.

If you want to communicate your ideas in this world, you need to stop distracting people with such ...... well, distractions.

They do it to save on their air conditioning bill in the summer and their heating bills in the winter. (When you open a door in the wintertime, cold air rushes into your house. Visa versa in the summer time)

Why double doors to start with?
1.The door not being opened still serves as a store window, and it helps add to the lighting.
2. The double doors (when unlocked) allows large items to easily be moved in and out of the building. (I have often wished I had double doors at my home. Especially when moving furniture and apliances in and out. Refrigerators and Sofas are really difficult to get through a regular sized door.)

Are we friends now? Or do you hate me for telling you that I am distracted by people who use "hell" as a word of emphasis.

maybe cause they only want you to open one door at a time...not like the movies when you open both doors full on and dance your way threw...maybe it becomes an inappropriate room temperature when both doors get opened
