How would one maintain a fulfilling and beneficial conversation with an individual who only ever wants to talk about themself and brag.

Every morning I walk my 8 yr old son to school. If I see someone I know I say good morning and every day I get minimal ,if any, response. If I go to school meetings I sit alone. If I pick my son up from school I stand alone.
I guess it never really bothered me, in fact in a strange way it was almost like being back at school, the popular ones surrounded by their buddies, the wannabes desperately scanning the playground for a face they know, and the loners.
The reason it now bothers me is that yesterday I had a companion who was taking her sons to school at the same time she got buttonholed by an acquaintance who I know vaguely so I said Good Morning! I was completely ignored, I repeated myself and she walked off! My companion was obviously embarrased by her friends behaviour ,but, said nothing.
It struck me then, that this wasn't the first time, spouses of work colleagues, parents of children my son plays with, neighbours
All say nothing,or look uncomfortable talking to me.
Help.

I like the way people take your questions a smear them so much, that they miss the core question! I try to keep my questions simple and non-comforming, but thanks to 'freedom' I have developed a vicious following of sorts. Have you ever had your questions misinterpreted? Or, am I on my own here?

I know that many on YAnswers are young & inexperienced. I also know that some strictly use YAnswers for "entertainment" purposes.

However, I am still amazed at the blatant racism, rudeness, & general stupidity of the average user.

Out of MILLIONS of YAnswer'er's I know about 25 people that would be interesting & decent to converse with if I met them for coffee. ISN'T THAT amazing??? (lol)

What do you think? Is there a deficit of "manners" in YAnswer's?

Whenever I send out invites for a party, I ask guests to RSVP. Is this no longer an acceptable thing to do? No one ever responds and then just shows up!

most of the time when i choose to take public transportation i find myself in a situation where i walk down main streets and guys in their cars would blow their car horns and wink at me or yell "Hey beautiful!," or "Hey sexy!" some drivers would even pull over to talk to me, and some would just stop dead in traffic to get my attention! Now i don't think i deserved this kind of behavior. i certainly did not provoke it! i don't wear sluty clothes, just my pair of jeans and a t-shirt. also i noticed that it didn't matter in what neighborhood i'd be at that time it's just the same everywhere, from uppscale neighborhoods to the city. for now, what i do is just ignore them and look away, but they are getting bolder sometimes and i'm kind of becoming uncomfortable going out and taking public transportation because of this.

I'm not gay, or a transvestite, but I'm curious. Help me become a woman for a day, so I can conduct an experiment to see if chivalry is dead. The results will get published hopfully as a freelance article, if not in a blog or web page.

What do I need to know? Dress, posture, speech, mannerisms, and anything else you can think of.

Thanks in advance
