It is not acceptable but some people are just born rude like babafemi m that answered your question.
Hmm...if you got a "real job" as he calls it, how on earth would he buy anything???
As an individual I would tell you to fling it back when the TA is over and pretend you thought it was funny and say something like, "Heh buddy, that was almost as good as your throw!" BUT...
I went to college and have a degree but remained in retail management for 20+ years. I have a VERY nice life, probably upper middle class so retail isn't that bad except for the "babafemi" types. It is kind of fun to mess with their minds. Next time one flings a card at you drop it somewhere they can't get to it easily or not at all, for example behind the counter and then kick it under the counter. Just do whatever it take to innocently delay them and drive them nuts! You get the idea....the customer IS always right but all that means is you can't fling it back and call them a jerk. I am older but PLEASE ALWAYS thank the customer!!! There is no excuse to not do that. As a customer if I go somewhere and the clerk DOESN'T thank me, I always reply sacastically, "You are welcome."
Of course all of the above means YOU were nice to the customer BEFORE he flung the card at you. You weren't sleeping or reading your cell phone messages, I assume?

It is not acceptable to fling a charge card. The same people who do this are exactly like the guy who told you your job was a waste of time. They think they are better than other people and have to be rude to prove it.

People are really rude - just look at babafemi's answer to this question. Now there is one moron who's just asking for an azz whoopin'! And he's also very wrong. I have a college education and work in a white collar profession and I STILL don't get the respect I should be entitled to. But I just chalk it up as the problem of the person doing the disrespecting.

Why do you read so much into it? I've worked retail for many years and the worst were not the ones who "flung" their credit cards. It doesn't bother me. My skin is thicker than that. And yours should be too, if you want to survive in the real world.
Personally, I don't do it, but I have seen my husband do it, and I know he means no ill will towards anyone. He just has a lot on his mind and figures the clerks are busy and want the card fast, so they can give it back quickly.

Some people are just rude jerks, and The customer is NOT always right! 99% of the time they are wrong. I have the honor of working in a family business, where we get to tell the rude people what we feel, with in reason. That makes it fun. But, to all the rude people, it is not that smart to anger the people who make your food or any other type of CSR, there are ways to get you back.

Honey that is just the way it goes and no, it is not okay. Some folks act like they were raised in a barn and were never taught common courtesy. You know what else is rude? Customers talking on the cell phone while conducting a transaction w/ you, I hate that. So be polite and smile, don't take it personal, some people are just plain old ignorant.

Don't listen to some of these answerers. They sound like they need a life. As for flinging chargecards, I agree. Flinging anything towards another person is rude. They should politely hand it to you. Unfortunately, manners are almost nonexistent these days.

I think that EVERONE should work retail at least one day between Thanksgiving & Christmas once in their life. That would change the way that retail clerks are treated. I work in retail but I am a great shopper when i am not at work. I never just leave stuff anywhere (give it to a sales associate if you don't want it), I try to rehang stuff and never get impatient when waiting in line.

beats me.. retail is bad enough try fast food. Istarted to manage a fast food restaurant when my children were little we couldn't afford child care as we had 4 small ones. so I had to work at night when he was home to watch the kids.. people assume that if you work retail or fast food you are somehow lower than they are.. now exactly where they intend on shopping or eating if we all got jobs in the stuck up sector is beyond me.. just kill'em with kindness... smile and tell them now have a nice day and come back real soon...

It never has been. I worked retail in college and I learned that some people are just rude and have no home-training. They think that people in the service industry (retail sales, waiters, maintenance, etc) are their servants. I've taught my kids to hand your sales person the money and wait patiently for the change. It's just common courtesy.
