Yes, it is racist. It's even racist for a black person to use the term. No matter how you slice it, this term has it's basis and roots in a similarly spelled word which I will not type here. It was, is and always will be a derogatory term and intelligent people would eliminate it from their vocabulary.

There isn't much you can do these days that isn't racist to someone. I would say if your friends are comfortable with it what does it matter.Its a shame you have to watch every word you say
or someone will pick it apart.
