most of the time when i choose to take public transportation i find myself in a situation where i walk down main streets and guys in their cars would blow their car horns and wink at me or yell "Hey beautiful!," or "Hey sexy!" some drivers would even pull over to talk to me, and some would just stop dead in traffic to get my attention! Now i don't think i deserved this kind of behavior. i certainly did not provoke it! i don't wear sluty clothes, just my pair of jeans and a t-shirt. also i noticed that it didn't matter in what neighborhood i'd be at that time it's just the same everywhere, from uppscale neighborhoods to the city. for now, what i do is just ignore them and look away, but they are getting bolder sometimes and i'm kind of becoming uncomfortable going out and taking public transportation because of this.

You are doing the right thing by ignoring it. However, if these jerks act aggressive there are some things you can do to prevent this. I took a class once where the instructor said a woman that strides or walks with her head up high will less likely be mugged or raped than a man walking with his head down.
I would walk in areas where there are witnesses and where there is a lot of light if it is night. If these idiots are still bugging you bring a digital camera with you and take their picture or just aim it at them to pretend like you are taking their picture. That is one way for them to leave. Years ago I was harrassed on the highway by a guy in a truck and I whipped out my camera and he exited the highway fast! Nobody likes evidence against them because you can file a police report for someone harrassing you disturbing the public. Just make sure before you do , to give them a verbal warning and say "Leave me alone!"
If they start bothering you on the street, just stop and go into a store or walk the other direction for a few seconds so they can drive away. People are psychotics these days so I would not recommend cussing at them because they could be dangerous.
Men that yell out like that have no manners, social class, and are very rude.

Put on a no nonsense look and ignore them. Walk purposefully toward your destination, don't look around and don't waiste your time replying to hecklers. They sure as heck arn't paying for your bills, why do you want to give them your time for nothing?

Don't take short cuts that will leave you in vulnerable areas with no one around.

Don't do this late at night. If you have to use public transport and you get off at your stop, just flag down a cab and pay the extra money to be taken to your home. Or can someone pick you up at the bus stop if it is late? Can you walk home with someone?

Carry a whistle, a cell phone and mace.

Consider karate. Only a long term self defense regime will be good to you when push comes to shove - if you don't practice regulary - it won't be conditioned in to you. One day information classes on self defense are soon forgotten over time and won't be remembered when necessary.

Have you tried to go with other people when you have to go somewhere? Do you carry any mace or other protection with you when you are out alone? Ignoring them is best when possible and make sure that you walk with a f))) you attitude body language can go a long way when someone is watching you. If you act or walk like you are scared or call attention to yourself then you make more of a target. Hold your head up and be very aware of what is going on around you at all times. if all else fails then get the license number and call the cops.

This used to happen to me alot when I was younger and thinner. I am on a strict diet and I have actually thought about this happening again after I lose the weight and I am not looking forward to it. In the past, while at times it felt good, it got to be really annoying. You shouldn't have to modify the way you look to keep those jerks to themselves. It's unfortunate what society does to us. Just keep your chin up girl and be thankful for what god gave you and ignore those dogs.

Well, I live in Mexico and I get the same thing. Don't look, don't make eye contact at all, don't give them ANY reaction. Wear an IPOD or some type of headphones, whether you have them on or not.

i would too, and you can not be to careful.. there is a lot of crazies out there... i think you should not go alone if at all possible.. and it would not hurt to carry some mace on you, if it is not illegal...but i think you just must be very pretty and have a good body and that is not your fault... but the immoral and people out in the world today is awful and i would be well on my guard if i were you.. i do not have that happen to me and i never go out alone...

Put a no nonsense look on your face and say "get lost" when they bother you. Also try not to wiggle your hips when you walk. Men can be pretty nasty. I hate that women have to put up with it.
