Sorry, bus people- or people who clean off the tables, or give you drinks etc....

BUST boy/girl?? I guess the restaurant in question must be HOOTERS. lol ... Actually, I really don't understand the whole concept of tipping. Everyone gets paid to do their job so why should you have to feel that just because someone elses job is a waiter or waitress etc that they deserve extra? There are people in this world who honestly can't afford to spend their hard earned dollar on tips after scraping their pocket lint just to take their sweety to that dinner or hotel. Then you get these rich heavy spenders who seem to pave the way by tossing tips and the waiters come to expect that from every tom dick and harry. Why should there be a rule of tipping at all? If you've got it, flaunt it...otherwise don't feel like it's a MUST.

If you are talking about a place where the bus person is making sure while you eat that you have a clean table when you return with more food, then yes it is proper to tip them, and the amount is up to you. Even though you are getting your own food at the buffet line, they are taking care of your table by taking used plates away, and most likely are refilling your drinks. I tip between 15% and 25% usually if full service, and 15% if just bus service. If we get great service or if we did not spend that much, I might go higher.

It's very proper to treat all people as very important human beings! Some of the most important jobs in our society (not the bust boy or girl per se) are under paid and unrecognized. I see nothing wrong with tipping someone to respect what they do. I usually figure double the tax for the tip anytime I eat at a restaraunt.

It is proper to tip any one you feel has given you good service of any type, and bus ppl work hard too. However, since they did not Serve the meal, a standard dollar or two is fine. You don't have to tip based on the cost of the meal, except in waitressing staffers, and that is 15-20 %.

Yes, it is proper . It might be essentially self serve, but the bus boy/girl is trying to make you more comfortable by taking away plates you're not using so you can have more room at the table. I think you tip about 20%.

It is polite to tip the person who is busing your table. Usually they are also serving you your drinks. Depending on how much service they are giving you and how much work you are making for them and how many people there are. I would give them 3-5 dollars. I also tend to give a little more if the person is nice and I have someone in my party who has a messy child.
