I've heard it said by some people in chat that they believe that it is the collective thoughts of many people that cause things, such as 9-11, to happen (The thinking here would be that a collective fear of terrorism caused this).

Personally, I think it's ridiculous, but I thought it would make a good question, since some do believe it.

mysterious like in murder mysteries where the serial killer ends up being the last one you expect, or mysterious like one of those guys in spy movies, you know, that wear sunglasses and trench coats and stuff?
or mysterious like twilight zone mysterious? He could be like, in that episode with the plane, the guy could be all looking out the window and God could be standing on the wing. That would be really mysterious.

early in his presidency gwb allowed the ban on the sale of assault rifles (introduced by his predecessor, president clinton) to expire.

robert hawkins used an assault rifle for his day's work at the mall. it maximised his kill potential (assault rifles are designed for that job).

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7130364.stm

president bush now tells us that he is praying for the nebraskan victims.

robert hawkins would almost certainly have killed fewer people with a handgun or a sports-rifle. would it have been better if president bush had kept the assault-rifle ban and spared his prayers?

or do believers prefer the empty gesture?

i have an undieing faith in God, and pray all the time. i still believe in the same basic Catholic values that i grew up with. my problems are with the way mass is now. when i was young mass was more of a religios ceremony than it is today. it seemed to leave you with a more serious feeling afterward. you could go into the church any time and kneel down and pray when you felt a need to. you could go in and LIGHT A CANDLE! doing that gave me so much comfort! why did they do away with it? i've also been disapointed with the cover up and denial of child predator priests. and that leads to another problem i have with the Church. why can't a married man or a woman be a priest? you can't tell me a woman or married man can't say mass with any less love or devotion than a single man. when they say only a single man can be a priest, they are only inviting the truly dedicated, which is becoming rare, and the the people who will use the priesthood as a tool to commit despicable acts. am i wrong?

The main consensus among forensic scientists and theological historians is that Jesus had olive coloured skin, and looked like a middle eastern man:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:RFJesus.jpg
There is no evidence at all to say he was white, it was created in order to bring christianity to Europe.
Knowing that Jesus is a middle easterner, does that change your opinion on them, or on Jesus himself?
I'm not saying all Christians are racist, so please don't be offended if you're a non-racist christian.

Too many people missed the key concept in my argument. Let's see if it happens again.

God supposedly made man to be dominant and woman to be submissive. But there are strong women in this world and submissive men. Let it never be said that I am the dominant one in the relationship between myself and my girlfriend. I mean, you could-- but you'd be stupid.

Many men, based on this belief, think that they should not take orders from a woman. They also consider women unfit to be put in positions where they would need to make decisions and be responsible-- this, according to them, is a man's job.

This is the same principle as racism. Just because black people commit a lot more crime does not mean that the upper-middle-class black dude who lives across the street is going to steal your car.

In conclusion, I don't care where Eve came from, it is discriminatory to tell strong women that they are unfit to lead.

Ok, I'm a 16 year old male, and last week I came out to my older brother (who is 20). He was very supportive and offered to come home for a week just to chilll with me (he is away at school). So then today, I decided I had enough of a security net (aka my brother) to come out to my mom (who is a PhD. Child psychologist.). I finally mustered up the courage, told her. She then gave me a disgusted look and then a huge smile and a hug, and then she said something to the effect of this: "You don't think I already knew that?! I'm so happy for you! and so on..."

Ok, considering she is has a PhD in psychology specializing in teens/children, it's pretty obvious that she has psychoanalyzed me to no end, I don't have a problem with it, and that would also explain how she knew. But where my problem lies is what to say to her. She (along with my dad and brother) are behind me 100%. How can I bring it up with her and thank her and my family?

I understand there are other faiths, I'm just asking. Heck, I'm Jewish and should be doing other things right now but hey, I've been thinking about it. I would walk right up to him and shake his hand and say thank you for your sacrifice on behalf of all of us. Then I'd pull him into a great big hug. Then smile while looking him right in eyes.. How would you react if you met jesus?

There are differences between men and women. In fact, there are differences in capabilities between the average man and the average woman. Men have more muscle mass, for instance.

Even though men are stronger than women, we cannot fool ourselves into thinking that this is universally true. For instance, to suggest that Tina the 22 year old black belt in judo is weaker than a 17 year old, 110 pound boy would be complete idiocy.

One of my good friends claims that God created man and woman different, and thus it violates God's wishes for us to reverse the roles of man and woman in society. As I understand it, this is a common apologetic Christian belief.

The general idea here is that presenting men as leaders and women as submissive is not sexist; these are roles condusive to the nature of both genders. However, just as a judo chick would pwn me, so too are there counterexamples to these stereotypes.
