Jesus would have or did drag Himself to the cross.
He was thinking of His love for you and how you are worth every drop of blood, every thorn, each nail...
There is a saying ; "His love would have held Him there."
He did it because He wants no one to go to hell.

You could get some true idea of this by speaking with people who have been beaten, assaulted, tortured, injured in an accident or during a war ...
The injuries Jesus is reported to have suffered were very severe and terrible, it's hard to imagine there was a time when this type of 'punishment' was absolutely standard stuff.
I have been told that under such extreme stress, the 'thinking' part of the brain shuts down almost completely, and the physical side of the person takes over almost completely.
It is horrifying to imagine.
The link below is to an article which discusses how people cope with extreme pain. It doesn't answer your question directly but has some interesting insights that might be helpful.
Best wishes.

He was looking ahead, thinking of you and me and the world that would be saved by his sacrifice:
Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
I have seen Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ; it is very moving. Those who would say this movie is sadistic are correct; I'm sure the Romans were. But the movie doesn't do his suffering justice, the Romans beat him all night and half the day. The movie is only 2 hours? long. The only ones who could comprehend this were the eyewitnesses; and THEY didn't understand what was happening.
In His Service,
John the Baptist

Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do. And probably also, this is really painful...if there was any other way, I would do that, but this is the only way....
Actually, I kind of think it's like natural child birth(also painful) but that is pretty much the only way child birth could be done for a long time and is the safest way. Not to cheapen it, just my closest comparison. I'm absolutely sure it was much, much more painful than child birth with all the beatings and the torturous way to give him the death penalty,(the cross.)

It was probably a pretty accurate portrayal, according to the story in the Bible and what we know of punishments back then.
For anyone who thinks it was "played up," just think. They're still offering lashings in some parts of the world. (And for much smaller offenses.) What He endured what much, much worse.
I think the human part of Him would be suffering, probably the way any of us would not have much coherent thought while enduring such pain. The other part of Him, that which is God, knew that it had to be done.

The star whom played the Jesus role was struck twice from lightening. He was nervous about stepping from the car . Storm clouds rolled in, the cast were surpriseingly thankful plus WOWed that the sky's 'original' scene was happening.

I know I would have been thinking about what was waiting for me once all the suffering was over with. He was probably thinking about why he was doing it, Jesus found the forgiveness of our sins more important than his own life. I have no idea how he was able to go through all of that and still have mercy on us.

I can't say but in any event if it were not for His divine nature / Godhood, He would have died there and then at the scourging ? That's what kept Him alive !
Perfect God / Perfect Man = Divine / Human he had both natures as is so evident when He proclaimed " Why hast Thou forsaken me " (human nature).

I try to think of it as a cross between what you or me would think and what god would thing
obviously he was distacted by the pain, afraid, mortified of what he knew was coming, but I would think he would be comforted in the knowlege of how his death will eventualy change the world

Funny you should question it like that! JESUS was thinking of "YOU" to give you a chance of not going to hell, to give you a chance of meeting him and being with him forever! that's what he was thinking of. "YOU" ( don't let anyone ever tell "YOU" different)
