or mysterious like twilight zone mysterious? He could be like, in that episode with the plane, the guy could be all looking out the window and God could be standing on the wing. That would be really mysterious.

Since you're not a Christian, your friend didn't want to drown you with talks and bible verses that you probably couldn't understand all at once. He's is simply saying to you to hang in there. Things will get better, and most of the time difficult situations teaches to look at the positive side of things(God works in mysterious ways). An abusive father teaches you to BE a good father to your children, a loved one passing teaches us to let go but to remember the good shared between you. Your good friend changes the topic so you could focus on other fun stuff instead of focusing on something that could trigger your depression. I'd say I'd like to meet your friend. :)

What they mean is that God worked out a situation that seemed impossible to them. Like when you don't know where your next meal will come from, then someone comes to your door with a bag of groceries, or a check comes in the mail at just the right time. Or a couple who was headed for divorce end up working it all out and stay together. Or a little baby is born in a manger instead of an inn. <*)))><

How about like spine tingly mysterious. Like un-canny mysterious. Like NO ONE should know that mysterious. Like, the most unlikely of outcomes mysterious. When it happens you are pretty sure that there is something bigger than you involved... Like having a bank-robber save a policeman type mysterious. Two maniacs turning on each other to cancel each other out, kinda mysterious.

Mysterious as in you have no idea what the plan is, but when you finally see how your actions affect what happens elsewhere in the tapestry of life, you realize that the outcome that came about could only come through a complex series of guided interactions.

It means that His ways sometimes make ZERO sense to us and if it had been left to us, we would have NEVER chosen to do things the way He did.
And then we end up scratching our head in puzzlement when everything worked out

try substituting "incomprehensible" for "mysterious"
