I was at Chipotle getting some food today, when the man ahead of me in line was being a jerk to the restaurant employee. First, he was ordering two beers so he had to show his I.D. Because he had a license renewal paper the employee had to look it over with someone (I'm assuming to find the birth date). The customer said rudely, "It's not a library book." Then for some reason after his credit card was swiped muttered, "Jesus Christ." There was something else after that that was said to his girlfriend, not sure what though. All of this took maybe 45 seconds. So maybe 30 seconds longer than usual. He was just being a jerk for no real reason. What really got to me though was that the employee was a Hispanic woman, and I have a strong feeling he wouldn't have said any of that to a white person. So during this situation I was fighting an urge to call him out (i.e., let him know how rude he was being), but I didn't want to create a scene either. Would you have spoken up?
