I believe that it is a very good quote. It makes you ponder. If you live your life KNOWING that God is real then you have lived your life with hope. Then when you die and find out that there isn't any, well, who cares, your dead. You wouldn't even be aware be again, your dead and there is no afterlife. But if you don't believe in God, then you may not have live your life on the straight and narrow. When you die though and find out that there is a God you would probably feel guilty for all the thing you did and have to live with them forever and eternity in the afterlife.

I remember a quote, though I can't remember who said it. It was something like " even if there was no God it would be necessary to invent one. It's an interesting concept. It's almost like saying how would you like to live without any laws and controls over murder, theft, abuse, etc. The questions that arise from whether or not there is a supreme Creator or if somehow we just happened to come into existence is an an age old question. After being seriously injured, going into a coma for about 6 Weeks and the doctors telling my family that I was going to die. I had a number of people both here and overseas praying for me. After this intervention I came out of the coma and was out of the hospital in a week. Is this coincidence or spiritual intervention ?-- that is the question. I would like to believe that a loving God intervened in my behalf. I definitely hope so!

Sounds like the author is hedging his bets. Won't help. God wants full commitment, not some wishy washy idea. I would like to think of God as waiting with open arms for everyone, but the Bible tells us that only those who have fully accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior will be greeted that way. BTW He wants everyone to make that commitment, but He knows humans to well to expect that.

Life is a gamble. Place your bets in such a way you cannot lose. The quote tells us how we cannot lose. And this is true for even Catjholics. Pray and study your religion more. You are possession of the greatest gift you could ever receive.

It does paraphrase Pascal; seems very cynical to me. Unfortunately for all who take this wager, "living as if" is not the same as "believing" that there is a God -- life is neither a game nor a dress rehearsal.

I hardly think any God who's approval I'd actually want would be too upset with me for seeking truth and objecting to the evils of religion. I'm a good person, and if there is a loving God up there, I don't think he can be too mad at me.

That would be tragic. To find out too late there is no god. You could have had so much more fun if you had known. I like to think that all those who don't believe will find him there waiting with open arms to greet them.

I'm also Roman Catholic. I found this wonderful Eucharistic Miracle. I hope this increases your faith in the literal presecne of Christ in the consecrated host and wine. God bless! http://www.therealpresence.org/eucharst/mir/lanciano.html
