can someone give me some example of anything that hasn't be invented, discovered or born, through some mutation, for lack of a better word, of it predacessor? perhaps "everything" is too broad of a term. one would imagine eventually going back far enough we'd eventually get to some state of ultimate simplicity, i.e. energy.

or is it only the Bible-fundamentalists?

Am I the only one who finds this type of idiocy to be indicative of a movement I would not wish to join even were one able to provide evidence of the existence of a "God"? Am I the only one who would rather potentially burn in Hell than wind up with this schmuck for a neighbor? Seriously.

Friendship with the World

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

— Romans 12:2

When we come across the term "world" in the Bible, it isn't necessarily speaking of the Earth, per se. Rather, it is often speaking of a system, a mentality, or a way of thinking. This system, this mentality, is controlled by "the god of this world," also known as Satan.

A serious enemy the Christian faces today is the world. The Bible warns, "Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God" (James 4:4). In the original language, the term "friendship" in this verse appears only in the New Testament and speaks of a strong emotional attachment, to love, to have an affection for, or even to kiss.

The Christian who turns from Christ and His church to seek pleasure and satisfaction from this world has put other gods in His place. That is the message God gave Jeremiah for His wayward people: "For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water" (Jeremiah 2:13).

A cistern is a large well or pool carved in a rock. A broken cistern has sprung a leak and can't hold water. God is saying, "If you go out there to the world and drink from that well, it is not going to satisfy you."

So what are we to do when we are surrounded by this mentality, this world system that is so contrary to what the Word of God teaches? The only way to counteract this world's message is to saturate ourselves with the things of God.

Simply put. It would seem as though, African-Amercians are the ones using most of the products sold by Korean store owners in the inner city. how is it that they control this medium and AA's don't?

Christians frequently claim that the Muslim deity Allah is a different God from the one they worship.

Given the actions of YHWH in the OT, wouldn't it make sense to distance Christianity from that guy too? All you'd lose are some prophecies predicting a Messiah, but there's still stuff in the NT that says the Bible is true because the Bible says the Bible is true. (Besides, it's not like Jesus was all that much like the Isaian Messiah anyway.) And you could disavow all the OT put-babies-to-the-sword sort of stuff.

Hi guys, we all heard the news

my problem is, how is this blasphemy?

Blasphemy is when you use the name of God in vain.
The 3rd commandment i think says Thous shalt not use the name of the lord in Vain.

So if muhammed is just a prophet (i have yet to hear of any prophecies of his which were fulfilled, unlike Jesus who fuflilled over 300 and did not kil anyone) why is taking his name in vain blasphemy?

It can not be blasphemy as he is not god

if i take Daniels or moses' or peters or pauls name in vain or isaiah, this is not blasphemy

isaiah is a prophet, why is it not blasphemy

as he is not the Lord

Muslims, by taking the name of muhammed in vain and calling it blasphemy, you are saying

1.he is a God
2. How your releigeon can not defned itself therefor you hjave to defend it.

You have no commandments concerning blasphemy, is this why you have to defend every possilbe instance of it even when its not directed towards allah?

Christians area majority in USA. Why dont we create atheist schools instead of prohibing Christianas to pray at school? Why should not we create rooms at school where Christians can pray?

Why should things be the way atheist want and not the way other religious want? I mean, Christian are majority. It mean that they alll together pay more taxes than all atheist together.

If my taxes cant be used to let my kids pray, why should I pay taxes to afford evolution research? why?

...how the universe came about? Because after intensly searching the interwebs for an explaination on where the very first partical (whatever you want to call it) came from. I can't seem to find one scientist that can explain it. I heard a lot of talk about energies and the such, but where did these "energies" come from? Did they just poof, and they're there?

Here are the verses:

Ephesians 1:13-14
“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession—to the praise of his glory.”

Here's another similar set of verses:

2 Corinthians 1:21-22
“Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.”

So my quesion/concern is this:
Why is it that some of my fellow believers in Christ insist upon the baptism of the Holy Spirit as proof of posession?

The Holy Spirit comes at the point of salvation......not weeks or months later.

Thanks,

Primo

my children never did, because i suppose i really didn't lie to them. as small children, they believed that santa was the big fat dude with a red suit. when they got old enough to question his existance, i explained to them that santa isn't really a man, but a spirit, or feeling, of christmas and we use a picture of the fat man in the red suit to help explain that to young kids. and then i tell them that i certainly believe in santa (as a feeling, not person) and they say they do too.

i ask this in R&S because santa fits into my "spirituality" of the holiday season

2. On February 6th, I'm going to become an atheist.

Two parts:

1) What is your faith/belief?

2) On a scale of 1-10, how often/rigorously do you question your beliefs? 1 being rarely, 10 being often.

Thanks for participating. Happy Wednesday, Everyone. =)

It looks like a well done children's fantasy. Could some one tell me what all the contraversy is all about, or can I guess.
There was a question last week about it and I said I was interested to go and see it BECAUSE of the the underlying rumble.

However, what I have seen and read, I cannot for the world of me, get anything out of it, that connects with any religion at all.
Am I missing somehing?
