...it is open to debate, but I think I was fired from a temp job I had at a Christian plumbing company a few years back. All was going well for about eight months! The VP of the company even had me work at her house a few days of the week... When she let me go, she simply told the temp agency that I was doing some things incorrectly, even though I had been there eight months! The temp agency did find this odd, but asked me to report to them that afternoon, explained that there would be no marks on my record and that they would just leave this as a 'didn't work out' thing. They found me another job.
To this day, I believe that my revealing that I didn't believe in god when asked (during a discussion) was the cause for my termination.

I have been discriminated against and called an Atheist (now that is funny....you will see why in a second).
I am a Wiccan and i believe in Many Gods.I have been beat up, spit on, called nasty names, and, yes discriminated against. I have been called an Atheist, which, BTW, is not what believe but I consider it a compliment. I feel it is a compliment because Atheists, at least those I know well, are open minded, courteous of others belief and an intelligent lot.
Why must we conform to another person's narrow minded view of the world? We don't have to! This is America and we still have freedom of thought and religion!
"You may either choose to believe all is magikal around you or that all ordinary. I choose Magikal!" Cheryl
Fantastic question!
Many Blessings to you!

As a christian I can say that I strongly avoid discriminating anyone in any case but due to my faith I may be misunderstood by some atheists!
I will never deny Jesus or God's Words and by doing so some atheists may think I am discriminating them... It ain't so and if by any chance someone has ever felt this way for anything I have written I apologize!

Yep. I generally don't share much about myself because it's no ones business, but will in this instance.
At first I was a Catholic, because my mother is one and wanted to raise me in that fashion. During this time I was picked on by non-believers for common reasons. I was one until about 15, but then I suddenly became an Atheist, just to get out of going to Church (which worked) and so my friends (most of who were atheists) would stop giving me crap (which they didn't. Apparently being a Catholic once in your life brands you as one forever.) While I was an Atheist I was given **** by the Catholics in my life, each to a different degree. I still had friends in the church, so I continued to go to Youth Group (and it was something to do)... but a lot of the people looked down on me because even if I didn't clearly state I was an Atheist I felt they could tell (my friend didn't though, he was a good guy.) When I became a young adult (20ish) I ditched Atheism for personal reasons and am currently latched to nothing in particular, which I enjoy the most by far. I'm not gonna waste my time judging whether God exists, whatever I believe or think I can prove has no bearing on it's existence.

I am sure athiests have been discriminated against, just like Jews, Catholics, Christians, Buddhists, Baptists, Protestants, Jehovah Witness', Lutherans, women, men, stupid people, short people, tall people, ugly people, cops, criminals, judges, ETC> Everyone has been discriminated against for a belief, a choice, an action. Is it a distinct type of discrimination when it comes to being an Athiest?

Many private organizations discriminate openly against atheists. The only one to come immediately to mind is the Boy Scouts.
Atheists cannot be scout leaders...you must profess a belief in a higher power in order to become a scout leader.

A woman I was dating for the better part of a year dropped me like a hot potato almost immediately after she "found God". I was an atheist the day we met, and never made a secret of it.
Now, tell me Christianity isn't a cult.

Not exactly. People seem to like me. I often hear what a good guy I am. So people seem to just look past the fact that I don't believe in their god(s).

Yes, I have been discriminated against but not because I'm an Athiest. It was because I'm a Christian.

Oh hells yes. I don't even tell most of my friends, just a couple close ones. I'm not ashamed one bit, but it really matters to a lot of people who can't seem to actually BE fair.
