It is a very diminishingly unhealthy mindset.

First the truth of it is that there are as many different beliefs about the "end times" (this section of Theology is called Eschatology) as there are denominations just about. There are some major categories but many subtle differences in each.

Yes many are obsessed with it and some to the point of it interfering with daily life.

This is nothing new and it is not just modern Christians. If you do any historical reading into religions you will see that many have done this.

The better attitude for a Christian is to simply understand that the end will come at some point and that we can't change it and we don't know when, so simply live life the right way and let tomorrow come as it will.

I think that it may seem that way because Christians are seemingly more aware that time does have an end than the general population. Also Christians have a hope after the end of time in that we believe that we are going to Heaven and we will live forever with God in His kingdom, so we talk about it more because that is where our hope lies.

But after writing the first part, I re-read the question and I think your question ws more on the lines of prophecy and wars and "the wrath of God being poured out" and that kind of stuff. Well, Some do seem obsessed with it, but that is because they have an understanding that is beyond the scope of natural undestanding, and they are zealous abuot sharing these understandings and revelations with as many as possible.

This is a problem.
The end times doctrines are just a part of the whole body of doctrine.
To become so "into" one doctrine above another can make one theologically unbalanced. Eventually, everything else is seen through that doctrinal pair of glasses.
Believing in the fundamentals, I have seen this in people I have been with. Sometimes it takes a lot of work to get them to see all the other things they need to look at.
Not all of us are obsessed with the end times.

of course all Christians aren't obsessed with the "End times". we know it will come someday, but probably not yet. in the meantime, everyone should concentrate on living a good life and loving God, and not worry about the end of the world.

"...Take heed that no one leads you astray. Many will come in My name, saying, 'I am he!' and they will lead many astray." --Mark 13: 5-6, paraphrased.

"And then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'Look, there he is!' do not believe it. False Christs and false prophets will arise and show signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect. But take heed; I have told you all things beforehand." --Mark 13: 21-23

Lots of people who call themselves christians have been prediciting the end of the world for quite some time now. Remember back in 1999 how EVERYONE thought Y2K was gonna be the destruction of the world. Then January 1st 2000 came and went and everyone was confused lol.

Only the Bible fundamentalists, whoever had read the Bible closely will know that only God knows the time of the end.

as Catholics we understand it WILL be happening but it's not an obsession. we're more concerned with the here and now once people have accepted Christ. kind of like in school -- we know there is going to be a final exam but we are making sure we get all our homework in and pass the quizzes & midterms along the way :)

All Christians "are not" obsessed with the end times. Many are..(sad to say) but, being up to date with what is going on, ..well, this is no differant than someone watching the news...ok? We go about our lives as the rest do..."Peace!"

We're not obessessed with the end times - just watchful and alert, knowing that it can come at any time. Jesus said that He is 'at the door', which means He's ready to open it at any time. The end will not come until the last gentile is saved by Christ. Then and only then will the end come.

I personally am not. I try and live my life like today is the last. I cannot change if and when the end comes. I need to be the best me no matter what.
