Simply put. It would seem as though, African-Amercians are the ones using most of the products sold by Korean store owners in the inner city. how is it that they control this medium and AA's don't?

this is mainly a business question, not meant to be racially fueled. But how is it that they can set-up a shop in an area that is prodominatly African-American and sell to them, when the community it'self never can OWN the shop? Seems as though it's the same in every inner-city area in the nation. I find that interesting...

Koreans produce most of the synthetic hair, wigs and weaves that are consumed mostly by black american women. They have factories and companies that service this need. They are very smart when they fed on this market. Weaves and braids are a god send to black women. They love to get their hair done and weaves are better than their hair. It's easier to manager and it looks caucasian. It also protects their hair from relaxers and perms and breakage. Koreans produce these products in factories in Korea and elsewhere in the usa. That's why they control this medium. Blacks can't grow straight silky hair so they look to the asians who can to provide them with the source. Asians have a long history in doing wigs, weaves and extensions for many centuries. You could not tell because our hair is naturally silky straight. But AAs will never put Koreans out of business because that would mean no more weaves and extensions and we don't want to piss off Beyonce and Ciara now would we?

These Asians are making a living and capitalizing off of the special needs and want of blacks. Because most of the products are made in Asian countries, they have been able to have the beauty supply market on lock - locking out many black supplying companies. They can offer the product and at a cheaper price. There was a documentary on this very issue. Blacks were upset because they could not compete. Would you feel any better if these same exact stores with the same exact products were owned by blacks? What they have in their stores is selling in the black community - they are buying this stuff. Fake hair is huge in many black communities. Until more blacks decide to take the natural route, Asian will take advantage by fulfilling a need/want that people have. It is the American way. ;-)

This is a really good question. Unfortunately it invites some really ignorant responses like Hatorah's. I wish I had an answer for you. I can only speculate that there must be some type of monopoly. I know one exists with the nail salons.

Simply put...being an immigrant, they qualify for a new business grant if they open certain types of businesses. Besides, that's where a lot of money is made, something in high demand and they know that.

When no one seizes an opportunity, won't you? That's all there is to it.

It would make more sense for them to buy products from their own communities and people. Instead of helping these other people make money.
