If god confused the languages of the world at the tower of babel so people could not speak to each other, does that mean that learning foreign languages is a sin?

“In the number of ancient MSS. [manuscripts] attesting a writing, and in the number of years that had elapsed between the original and the attesting MSS., the Bible enjoys a decided advantage over classical writings [those of Homer, Plato, and others]. . . . Altogether classical MSS. are but a handful compared with Biblical. No ancient book is so well attested as the Bible.”—The Bible From the Beginning (New York, 1929), P. Marion Simms, pp. 74, 76.

A report published in 1971 shows that there are possibly 6,000 handwritten copies containing all or part of the Hebrew Scriptures; the oldest dates back to the third century B.C.E. Of the Christian Greek Scriptures, there are some 5,000 in Greek, the oldest dating back to the beginning of the second century C.E. There are also many copies of early translations into other languages.

In the introduction to his seven volumes on The Chester Beatty Biblical Papyri, Sir Frederic Kenyon wrote: “The first and most important conclusion derived from the examination of them [the papyri] is the satisfactory one that they confirm the essential soundness of the existing texts. No striking or fundamental variation is shown either in the Old or the New Testament. There are no important omissions or additions of passages, and no variations which affect vital facts or doctrines. The variations of text affect minor matters, such as the order of words or the precise words used . . . But their essential importance is their confirmation, by evidence of an earlier date than was hitherto available, of the integrity of our existing texts.”—(London, 1933), p. 15.

It is true that some translations of the Bible adhere more closely to what is in the original languages than others do. Modern paraphrase Bibles have taken liberties that at times alter the original meaning. Some translators have allowed personal beliefs to color their renderings. But these weaknesses can be identified by comparison of a variety of translations.

One thing I don't get: if Jehovah’s witnesses believe that only 144.000 will be saved and that nothing they personally do can change this, that the number (and persons) are already set and no changes can be made, then why do they refuse to receive blood transfusion or organ transplantation, as they believe that they will receive the sins of the donor? What difference does it make? Please, someone, explain it to me..

There's a show up here in Canada called "Just for Laughs: Gags." Basically, they put hidden cameras out on the street and set them up for a joke; kind of like Punk'd with circus/elevator music and no speech. Anyways, this one skit just aired where they had a few Muslim men praying in front of a parked car, acting totally obvlivious while the driver wanted to get out (one asshole even used his horn to get them to move). Personally, I'm an Canadian aethiest, and I found this personally offensive. Just curious as to how the Muslim people feel.

According to this, women are not allowed to speak out in the christian faith. If it is true, how many christian women can say they do follow this - and if they do speak out will they go to hell? does that mean more women will be in hell as today - society has gone away from christianity?
Just wanting to know if this is a contradiction or if its false. Thanks

Even if I tried to follow everything in the Bible there is absolutely no way I could (I mean I don't really want to stone adulterers/homosexuals) so I might as well not try if I'm going to hell anyway.

Okay, so Christmas is a huge deal for me and my dad so we always have at least three trees. One tree is gonna be Disney themed so all Disney ornaments. The next tree is gonna be only silver and gold ornaments. So, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a theme for the last tree. It's the biggest one that's gonna go in the window.
