Can we understand the message in quran just by reading it? It seems there are contradictions like whether God's day is equal to 10,000 years of human or 50,000 years

I am a Christian. How do I fast to get closer to God. I don't necessarily want to lose weight at all, just get closer to God. It is my first time and I am a child. If it is not healthy I will only do it for a day and I am doing it because I am seeking God's help in a special event. If I am not supposed to fast at all, is there any other way to get closer to God that equals fasting? I lift my hands up to Him for 10 minutes not stopping. I did not mind the pain and gave glory to God.What is the significance of laying down face to the ground, kneeling, fasting, and lifting of the hands? I am asking Him to let me win an event... a very important one.. a spelling bee. Please don't laugh .This is very, very important to me and I put so much effort in it and am a devoted Christian, an international Christian.and I really want to get to know God more and get closer to Him.

Myself, I would choose Jimmy Stewart. He was such a gifted actor, had a passion for life, and was such a compassionate person.

First off, let me apologize for rushing right to the Senior Citizen board with this question, I just hoped to have more "been there and this is what I did/am doing" type answers.

My grandmother has had heart problems her whole life and has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure, heart disease, etc. She has just recovered from a stroke ( Go Her!) and is doing really well, except for the fact that her doctors seem to have her on a zillion blood thinners. She's handling that quite well, but we're from Buffalo, NY and it's starting to get COLD.

She seems to be always freezing and I'm looking for a gift to send her (I'm in CA) that would help keep her toasty, but I don't know what would be the best thing. I've thought of slippers and sweaters and heated throws for when she's watching TV and things like that, but I was hoping to hear from someone who had been through a similar situation and could tell me "hey this is really great".

Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks in advance!

never married or had children? If he was to be one of us and then get nailed for our sins why not the norm of marriage and family? He could have set a great example for fatherhood and sacrifice so why didn't he marry? Sex in marriage isn't a sin. But then if He was real maybe he was "boofing" Mary the prostitute and also getting it on with all those dudes he chose as His followers.............................. or maybe He really did not die on the cross and married Mary and moved to France and had a family.

I have a friend who I have invited to Thanksgiving dinner, primarily because she is having child custody problems (the children are with their dad now), and I didn't want her to spend the holiday alone.

She is a vegetarian, so I am doing my best to be accommadating. I've discussed the menu with her, and she has told me the things she doesn't eat for ethical reasons, but then she began to tell me all the things she will not eat just because she doesn't like them, which includes almost everything I'm making for dinner! She said to me "Oh don't worry, I'll just make myself some pasta or whatever is in the cabinet." I was offended at just the thought of her coming to my house, and refusing to eat the food I'm preparing. I have no problem adjusting for dietary reasons, but I feel that a guest who won't eat what is being prepared is being very tacky, and I just don't know if I want her there with my in-laws. Can I uninvite her? If so, how can I do this? Would I be a real jerk?

most atheists (not to generalize) uses the question, "why would bad things happen to good people if God is truly good?"

well, what is your definition of "good" people?
Nobody is perfect, for all have fell short of the glory of God.

Find me someone who truly deserves the kingdom of heaven because they are "good" then we'll talk.

only Jesus is deserving, thats why He sacraficed His life so that we who are un-deserving may also enter heaven.

Goodsearch.com gives money to the charity you pre-select when you use the site for web searching. I believe it is affiliated with Yahoo.

There are several organizations within their charity list that have names that sound as if they help inmates reform, but I don't know which to choose.

Can you remember when you were in elementary school? At that time, most students had to submit a book review to their teacher every week. In my case, I used to hate reading. Therefore, I copied friends’ or other reviews from magazines. However, after I met a teacher who told me the advantages of reading, I changed my mind and my behavior.
