Agnosticism (from the Greek a, meaning "without", and gnosticism or gnosis, meaning "knowledge") is the philosophical view that the truth value of certain claims—particularly metaphysical claims regarding theology, afterlife or the existence of God, gods, deities, or even ultimate reality—is unknown or, depending on the form of agnosticism, inherently unknowable due to the nature of subjective experience.

Agnostics claim either that it is not possible to have absolute or certain knowledge of the existence or nonexistence of God or gods; or, alternatively, that while individual certainty may be possible, they personally have no knowledge. Agnosticism in both cases involves some form of skepticism.

Demographic research services normally list agnostics in the same category as atheists and non-religious people,[1] although this can be misleading depending on the number of agnostic theists who identify themselves first as agnostics and second as followers of a particular religion.

Agnostic - Agnostos
The English term "agnostic" is derived from the Greek "agnostos," which means, "to not know." An agnostic is one who admits, "I don't know." The term is applied specifically to those who don't know for certain whether or not God exists. An agnostic is one who believes that the existence of God is unknown and most likely beyond human ability to discover.

I'm an agnostic.

I don't believe in a god or gods. I just think they were created to explain the world to our uneducated, primitive ancestors.

Sin is a "guilt complex," laid on the masses by religious leaders. Heaven with the clouds and the gates and the wings is highly unlikely, as is some pit full of volcanic lava called hell. If ANY of this were true, SOMEBODY, SOMEWHERE, in the last few thousand years would have caught a glimpse of it if it's true. But they haven't and it's not.

I am NOT a "fence-sitter" or "undecided." I assure you I'm VERY sure of my beliefs as the evidence has presented itself to me.

That's about it!

Nobody's ever proven a god exists. But, while no gods are showing up to prove me wrong, I believe there's no way of knowing what's 'OUT THERE." All we can do is believe in what feels right to us.

Agnosticism is the view that the existence of God is impossible to be known or proven. The word “agnostic” essential means “without knowledge.” Agnosticism is a more intellectually honest form of atheism. Atheism claims that God does not exist – an improvable position. Agnosticism argues that God’s existence cannot be proven or unproven – that it is impossible to know whether God exists. In this concept, agnosticism is correct. God’s existence cannot be empirically proven or disproven.

The person who answered second has a good answer. I would add one more possibility: a person who believes there is SOMETHING out there; some kind of God or spirit or guiding force- but the person does not know what exactly they think it is.

Not quite an athiest. Their belief is that if god is supposedly all knowing and we as humans are beneath him, then how do we have the knowledge to know so much about him if we are beneath him. In a nutshell, it says that you do believe in something, but as a meer human you don't know exactly what it(god) is.
