Like when Christians ask a question intended for lots of folks to answer, and then they choose a BA that reflects what is "correct" according to what they believe. Isn't Y!A a place to ask questions you don't already know the answers to, and to ask (and consider) the opinions of others? When it's used this way, isn't it more like holding Bible study in R&S?

I was going to ask for a show of hands, but it seems pretty obvious to me that the atheistic regulars here in the Religion and Spirituality section signifcantly outnumber those who believe in some higher power, whether Christian or other.

Setting sarcasm and other witty non-answers aside, I'm simply asking why you all think this is so?

What are your impressions, and do you mind that I add random semi-colons in sentences?

I'm Agnostic, so I find myself having to "spar" with both ends. However I've noticed, that Atheists are quite adamant, and very angry when it comes to their beliefs (or lack thereof).

Yes, the same can be said about Christians, but in their case, they're defending a religious belief (not saying they're justified).

Is being baptized a requirement? Remember back up your answer with proof of the bible. I know for sure it is read John 3:2-5 and Mark 16:16 These prove baptism is essential for being saved. Jesus himself said these words. Some people believe only by confession and repentance you are saved. No where in the bible does it say that you are born again after you repent. So please prove to me where (in the bible) It states only with the mouth. Romans 10:9- 10:13 are good but they are disciples of Christ when Christ himself said be baptised.

Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Acts 2:38-41 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call." With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation." Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

Acts 22:16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.

I had heard the rumor before that the Talmud sanctioned sex between adult males and three year-olds and I just blew it off as propaganda. But today I came across this site with many, many quotes from the Talmud on the subject. I was very surprised and I'd really like some educated Jewish imput on this link. I'm not posting this to start trouble, really. I would really like to know the full story from other, Jewish points of view.

I am a Christian. Lately I have been in a situation where I am called to bless / pray before individuals or groups, prior to a meal. Audiences are not my forte. In these situations I can sometimes have a tendency sort of “forget” how to pray, or it generally comes out not so great. Anyway… I am on the lookout for any prayer recommendations or classic meal prayers etc, that I could use in such situations, whether it be on a date or in a small group. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Are you aware that your God has screwed up at least ten times (according to his own book ... the one he wrote) so badly that he repented? See Genesis 6:7, Exodus 32.14, Judges 2:18, I Samuel 15:35, II Samuel 24:16, I Chronicles 21:15, Psalm 106:45, Jeremiah 26:19, Amos 7:3, Amos 7:6 (you'll want to use the KJV to see the word "repent" or a variation thereof). Why does an omniscient God change his mind so much?

And speaking of omniscience/omnipotence ... if (a) God wants everything to be righteous and perfect and (b) God is truly omnipotent yet (c) everything is not righteous and perfect, at this very moment, even as we speak ... then there must be some other thing that God wants even more than for everything to be righteous and perfect. Any ideas on what that other thing might be?

And still speaking of omnipotence ... are you aware that the Bible itself records an incident when there was something that God COULD NOT DO? See Judges 1:19 (Biblegod can't overcome iron chariots).

what if we were in a horrible accident before we died, what will our body look like then?

a Chronic Indifference Brigade? They could identify themselves with this symbol:

[[[shrugs]]]

By the way, no offense intended to the admirable members of the Hug Brigade and what they stand for.

And just so this will be a definitely religious question, would God be a member of the Hug Brigade, or the Chronic Indifference Brigade?

I have noticed that ALL mormons that i encounter misquote or twist biblical text for their own advantage? Such as Acts 3:19-21
The context in which it is presented shows Peter and John speaking in the temple after having healed a lame man. The text in question was referring to Jesus and it was a message to the people standing in the courtyard to become Christ's followers. I dont think that it was meant that a NEW prophet was to come after.

Maybe we could throw in a few Torahs and other crap religious texts in the bonfire. Once I dumped a bunch of aftershave on a Bible and set it on fire; it burned pretty good.

some relationships do end in friendship but the majority of people end their relations in tears, suicide, or even murder. what i say is blame that on society and stereotypes that make it possible for everyone to be burnt once or twice in their lifetime. yeah that is just apart of life but what about the lives portrayed on t.v. it sinks its way into society for example music videos, they portray gangsters and skanks as the best way to live. don't get me wrong all that is cool to me thats why im writing to you guys what if it was like church programmes and nuns on t.v 24hrs a day i bet we will be nuns and choir boys. where i am coming from is today's society is just waiting for people to jump at the next in thing right now its people getting others rite where it hurts and i no because i just come out of a relationship with someone where all i did was cheat, cheat, cheat and after breaking up i have been sitting here wondering why? I know why SOCIETY AND STEREOTYPES
