would they consider taking me out of my catholic school

Honestly, though my catholic school education was full of stupid dogmatic nonsense, I *did* wind up getting a better education compared to the kids who went to all the public schools around me. I entered highschool with the tools to be a much better student than most of the other kids, and most of the top students at my (3,000 student) HS had graduated from the same Catholic K-8 school as I did.

Talk to your parents. Calmly and rationally explain how you feel, and make a sincere attempt to discuss what you think might be a good plan going forward. Your parents might not like this, or they might - I don't know them, but you do! If it doesn't work, you'll just have to respect the fact that you live under their house and their rules, and while they're footing the bills you pretty well have to shut up and do as you're told. Just remember that nobody can change what you believe or disbelieve in your heart, and that's the most important thing of all!

My family IS atheist and the sent me to a Catholic school- the education I got there was invaluable (though it wasn't without it's faults). My school rspected religious freedom and taught world religions, when it was time to say a prayer everyone who wasn't Catholic just kept their mouthes shut. Stick it out and you won't regret it even if you don't agree with the religious aspect- trust me your other option is public school.

4 1/2 years later I still freak out at how incapable people are just at writing (at the university level, no less!)... do it for the education, and know that when you come out at the other end, you'll be a better person for it.

Depends if they are born again Catholics or not as there is a world of difference. They are probably paying a lot of money to educate you and you need to thank them for this as you are getting the best. You sound very ungrateful! If I were to send my son to Catholic school it would be a sacrafice on my part and I think I would want some appreciation for this!

Probably not. Sadly, they'll likely try even harder to force belief on you - remember the Inquisition? They killed people, claiming it was to save them!

I know a few ex-Catholic atheists, and know what you'll be going through, especially if your parents are devout (I'm presuming so since they sent you to a Catholic school, not free!) Good luck!

Personally, were my parents so inclined, I would have told them to go polish a knob...but in your case...I don't know. It depends on your parents. It might be better to put up with it until you get out from under their "spiritual tyranny."

I feel very sorry for you. :*( Catholic school is the stuff of nightmares (not that I'd know from personal experience).

Well, you could just wait the time out until you graduate and move out.
That sucks.

Have you considered talking to one of the Senior priests about not believing. Where I line I think many of the priests are more like deists than theists.
Some of them are even more atheistic than I am.

For your sake, I hope so. You might want to make that judgment based on your parents. Depending on how they feel about religion, it might make your life more bearable to put up with Catholic school, and not tell them. I don't know your parents, so that is a judgment you should make.

Good luck.

No.....there are all kinds of religions represented in Catholic Schools today.

Parents send their children there for the smaller classes, the discipline, the education.....religion for most of them is not the most important reason anymore.

I don't know. They might get mad at you. My entire family is atheist. So, I guess I am lucky. Religion is unnecessary today. It's a way of controlling society and causing wars.

Watch the thumbs-down pour in.

if they want you to believe, they'll continue to put you in the school, but if they are people who care what you want, then they will consider taking you out on your beliefs.
