Like when Christians ask a question intended for lots of folks to answer, and then they choose a BA that reflects what is "correct" according to what they believe. Isn't Y!A a place to ask questions you don't already know the answers to, and to ask (and consider) the opinions of others? When it's used this way, isn't it more like holding Bible study in R&S?

Perhaps I should have given an example. The Question was: "Who do you think God is?" There were a ton of answers, but the one that was chosen as BA was "He is my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who died for my sins and saved me from eternal Hell" or something close to that. The Comment from the asker was what got to me. "Amen! That's the truth! That's the God I know!" Again, praphrased. It was the idea that the asker was just waiting for the 'right' answer, which he/she already knew.

It really doesn't bother me either way. The general idea in my opinion is to get my response out there for others to read -- not necessarily the one who asked the question. Points may mean something to some people, and seeing your own answer displayed as "best" is a nice little fringe benefit of using this platform, but it should not be the reason for participating.

What I find funny is that you are accusing Christians of doing the same thing that some atheists do. They ask questions, but then they answer there own question, with in the question, or they only are looking for answers that agree with them. Some atheists do the same thing as far as best answers are concerned. So I am glad that i don't answer question to try and get best. But I answer them with the way I believe, which doesn't give me a lot of best answers, anyway. Only a lot of thumbs down. Which shows me that at least an atheist has read my answer. So the more thumbs down I get, the more atheists I know have read it. By the way, R&S is a "Religion and Spirituallity" section. What other way would a believer answer?

In other sections of Y!A, I think the 'Best Answer' chosen by asker really represents what the asker found most useful. But here (and in Politics and Government, and a few other areas) we're asking questions about a worldview, and it's hard in some cases to evaluate another's worldview fairly.

And yes, there are always going to be those dinks who BA the one guy who said "God Bless" when the question was "Atheists: Why are you morons?"

This happens a lot on YA and it's not just Christians. I answer a lot of questions that non-Christians ask that are specifically directed at Christians, and then the asker will pick a best answer that's like "Christianity is a myth" or "Christians smell like feet" after they've received careful, well thought out answers to their questions.

It is odious; I definitely agree with that. It doesn't matter who does it.

It happens all the time. Sometimes these areas are used to make a speech in order to get a reaction.

It's pretty much standard practice around here. Though I do agree with you completely. I wish everyone on this forum were as open minded.

yeah it gets so tiring when a bunch of christians are like ATHIESTS or WICCANS or w.e., do you believe GOD is the true higher being???? or something like that, its just retarded because you know they are going to be unmoving on their opinion and they are just looking to convert or bash people because what they think is right goes and everyone else can go suck on a pony lol. But seriously everyone does it some time or other we cant help it, its just plain wrong though its like singling out someone and just beating the crap out of them while they're on the ground lol.
