Maybe we could throw in a few Torahs and other crap religious texts in the bonfire. Once I dumped a bunch of aftershave on a Bible and set it on fire; it burned pretty good.

No. Destruction of competing ideas was invented by the churches. Just embrace reality.

There used to be a country called Nazi Germany where Bibles of Seventh Day Adventists were tossed into bonfires. There used to be a country called U.S.S.R. where Christian Bibles were tossed into bonfires.
There's presently Clam The Burnout who needs to join that country which is next on the 'used to be' list.

Bet you really showed your parents, too! In THEIR faces!! *rolls eyes*

That having been said, why would I bother? I actually /like/ reading religious texts. I keep copies of the Bible, Koran, and Mahabharata in my bathroom for when I'm excremeditating. Seems to me like burning books, any books, is an awful waste of time and energy.

Nah. I have entirely too much respect for books to burn any of 'em. Just because you don't like the content of the book, it doesn't merit a burning. Just close it, and put it back on the shelf.

Oh, jeez, please don't give us such a terrible name. I _like_ the Bible, and the Tao Te Ching, and the Bhagavad-Gita, and probably whatever other religious works I'll read some day. Burning books is what Nazis do, and there's a lot of wisdom to be gained from religious writings even if you don't believe in their holiness.

Nah... we should get together and knock on doors and leave non religious material for them to read. Granted non religious material might be anything. Maybe old magazines we are done with.

Leave the book burning until that rapture thing when they won't be needed anymore, we'll have a surplus, and it will be free fire place material for winter.

No, for two reasons:

1. It would make us look just crazy as the fundamentalists.

2. If you try to cook food over burning paper, it tastes terrible.

No, rituals are for nonthinking people or those with OCD. I have used one for kindling before, in a hotel room fireplace (back before gas ones became the norm), but it was merely convenient.

That's a pretty bad idea. They'll just use up valuable resources to make more. Religious text isn't so bad - it's just how some use it to try to justify their ignorance.

The burning of books is petty. So, count this atheist out.
