We all know the bible condems homosexuality, I don't want to ask if it is right or wrong.
I saw a documentry on medicine. There is a just completed study on drugs.
What it concluded was medicines pass through our bodys into the sewer , sewerage is treated but it treatment does not take out the medicines .
This ends up in the food chain and when we eat (especially fish) we are getting a cocktail of drugs .( the pill , heart medicines and so on)
This could be partly to blame for homosexuality ,illnesses and a range of mental problems
Do you think this is possible and would god forgive those who have no control because of the affects of these medicines in our food ?

The verse that says, "Spare the rod and spoil the child". Why do some people take it literally and some symbolically? Is there a definite right or wrong? The abuse of caning is so damaging yet Christian parents do not think it wise to use alternative discipline measures claiming the act is biblical. I call that using the word of God for their own end. With so much statistical studies about the damage of physical affliction, the rise in dysfunctional behaviours using abusive discpline measures, can we really justify the literal meaning of the verse?

For those who use the cane as a scare tactic when disciplining, what sort of personality does your child turn out to be? Confident or Nuerotic?

I've been reading up on a lot of religions recently. I have a friend who is a JW.

According to what I have read, it seems like she could get in trouble.....

She was a bridesmaid in my Catholic Wedding. She did not partake in communion or anything like that. But it seems like she shouldn't have been "allowed" to participate.

I have not yet published my Wedding announcement in the paper. Should I leave her name out of it to keep her out of trouble?

I know I could ask her, but I feel kind of stupid asking her.

When I asked her to be a bridesmaid, I did tell her that I would understand if her religion prevented it. But she said it was fine...

I've read about the whole disfellowshipping and whatnot. I'd hate for her to have to go through that unless it was her choice.

I don't agree with her religion, but I respect that it's what she believes in. She give me the same respect.

Whats the strangest / funniest/ interesting thing that has happened in the sack?
Mine:
My husband and I were eating hot wings while watching a movie........We got in the mood later on and my husband obviously still had hot sauce on his hands, well when he touched a certain sensitive place, I thought it was gonna catch on fire. He had to pour cold water on it, adn it was pretty numb for the next few hours....Don't have sex after eating hot wings guys.

Here's the deal this guy:

Doesn't smoke, drink, do drugs, or have illicit sex.

He is aware of most if not all of his personality flaws and has actively been working on becoming more patient, joyful, understanding, and forgiving. He has had a lot of success with this over the past 1.5 years. His biggest flaws are being judgmental, having a quick temper, being stubborn, and being a bit of a sourpuss.
He is very philosophical, determined, loyal, trustworthy, intelligent, intuitive and does not mind doing loads of volunteer work. He also is fairly wise for his age.
He is in shape, has been told he is easy on the eyes, and is in his mid 20s. He has long hair.
He is an Eagle Scout, a Martial artist, a nerd, and a good writer.
He hopes to start working on getting a degree in acupuncture soon.

And now the reason I post this here: he has spiritual leanings in Quakerism, Buddhism, Paganism (Druidic and Norse), likes metaphysics, and can do energy work/magic. He has never been baptized.

I am someone raised in a Christian household struggling to make sense of my religion. Christians believe that those who believe in Jesus Christ and his death will receive eternal life in heaven while those who do not will be tormented in hell for eternity. Now, most people who believe this were born and brought up as Christians. They were not one religion and persuaded to convert to Christianity. Would you have the courage to leave every belief you ever knew because someone said your beliefs were wrong and his or hers is right? Who are we to tell some Hindu or Athiest or Muslim or Jew that they are going to hell if they don't convert. Most of us were never asked to make the same difficult decision. What about all the people who lived and died throughout history who never heard of Jesus? Are we to believe that a loving and just God would send them to eternal torment in Hell?

We have known each other 2 years, and we are talking and together, but for some reason, we don't know each others work numbers. We have never asked, we have never shared. Is that odd/bad?

We are accesible through cell phone/email though and that has never been a problem. But do you think it is good manners to share work numbers with the person in your life?

Should I share it even if he hasn't, incase it's an emergency? I have started to feel a bit guilty about it.

Personal calls are allowed here but ofcourse, have to be kept really short, esp. because I am here at the front desk and I have to take phone calls to the company all day. Plus he is a sweet, sensible guy and not someone who will hound me, so I know I can trust him with the number.

Your thoughts?

I just answered a hypothetical question about what would happen to a "saved" person who died in the act of adultery before having the opportunity to confess and repent of the sin.

One of the answers, predictably, was "A saved person would never commit adultery." I've heard this before, and it genuinely puzzles me. Does being "saved" mean someone can never give in to any temptation to sin for the rest of his/her life -- and if they do, they weren't really "saved" in the first place?

How on earth do you tell, then? Doesn't anyone ever question their own sincerity at some low point after making that decision to accept Christ? Is that why the already "saved" occasionally walk down the aisle again to reiterate their commitment? Just to make sure?

If that one act of accepting Christ makes you eternally secure no matter what, then what's with the "backsliding" and the "his conversion wasn't genuine" Monday-morning quarterbacking? You're either secure, or you aren't. Thoughts?

personally, i wish i had believed that life passes you by too quickly as you get older, and that if i could change anything, i would have opened my eyes and ears more at school... and i would never have been near my ex who treated me bad.

I recently read a book called unChristian (Kinnaman) that reports the results of hundreds of research studies related to the impressions young Americans have about Christians. Interestingly, if you spend just one hour in the R&S section, you will see at least one question or answer that directly supports every significant finding in the book.

When people, primarily those outside the faith but even those inside it...and especially those in the 18 to 29 year old age group think about the term "Christian", words that come to mind include insensitive, judgmental, hypocritical, antihomosexual (or homophobic), sheltered, arrogant, and hostile.

My questions...

1. Are these perceptions an accurate reflection of the instructions Jesus gave his followers?
2. Should Christians be concerned about these negative perceptions?
3. Do all Christians share some measure of responsibility for these perceptions and, if so...
4. What should we be doing to alter these perceptions?

From what I can gather about atheism.Its a belief in "nothing." There is NO real reason as to why you're here.Why you exist.There's no significant purpose or meaing to this life.There's nothin' beyong this realm.Life is random.Religion,God. Pfff, its all nothing,nonsense!

Be an atheist and that's mean your smarter. Ultimately aren't I taking my belief out of nothing and putting it into nothing?Because atheism is a belief is it not?Its not neutral and down the line. Hitchens,Dawkins,Maher,Harris ect. They ARE trying to prove something. There is NOTHING.So to go from believeing nothing("God") to believeing nothing(atheism)what's the selling point?Isn't everything at the end just pointless?Do I really understand anymore about this life or smarter just because I don't believe in God? It just seem's like I'd just be against something not for anything.

Now I'm not of any orgainzed faith or religion.Not trying slam atheist.Just asking questions.

Why do you keep trying to get creationism taught in science classes?

Creationism is based on faith, not science; it is also only based on ONE faith, christianity (and calling it intelligent design or anything else doesn't change what it really is).

Don't claim that you just want equal time for alternative views on our origins, I have yet to find any of you that would like to have your children taught about buddhist creation, or how the Sioux thought we arrived here.

There are classes that discuss alternatives to evolution, they're called philosophy classes.

Please don't start in on anything about the United States being founded as a christian nation, it was founded on secularism which is plainly stated in every one of our founding documents.

Are you truly blind to the fact that teaching creationism in public schools would be the same as state-sponsored religion? This is blatently unconstitutional.

This question is so weird that I don't even know what category it should belong in. Within the past month I had this really weird dream about playing a slot machine. When I woke up I completely became obssessed about going to a casino and playing slot machines. I never go to casinos and I never had dreams about slot machines or gambling before. Anyway, so this weird obsession lasted about a week so I went to a casino near me. I gambled with $80 and won $930. The dream hasn't come back and I haven't gone back to the casino. I'm a Christian and I don't believe in gambling despite what I did. I have a fiance who is also Christian and I haven't told her yet about this weird experience. How do I reconcile this strange experience with my beliefs, and how should I tell her about what happened?

I am a Christian. I had major surgery a few weeks ago and I'm still recovering. On top of that, while I was in the hospital my grandma died. Now I'm feeling blue and greiving too. I feel stuck because I'm not able to do much yet. I don't even feel like reading my Bible. Please help!
