All I asked is why do some people like to shove religion down others throats. I didnt say everyone did, and I didnt say I had no religion. My religion is Wikan just so you know....I think having your own religion is a great thing. And I wasnt saying that only christians try to shove religion down your throat, I was just saying some people insult your religion by saying things like " That is wrong" or "Why would you think that" or " You really need to go to my church, you would learn about things there". First off, I love my heritage and religion.Second, I was not insulting anyone. Third, I am not athiest! .....Why cant we all just get along? lol

"Politics and religion are obsolete, the time has come for science and spirituality."
Do you agree?
I read this a few years ago in The Fountains of Paradise, but I think Arthur C. Clarke was quoting someone else.

i am Christian! And I never turn do anyone who want to spread the word. If it the truth I will go along with it, but Jehovah witness are always coming to me. For instance at the bus stop at school I run into some even at home they come every Sunday! I don't want to turn them down, but I am not sure their teachings are right. How do I let them know I don't believe in what they teach without hurting their feelings.

that has propagated so fiercely because individuals who didn't believe would be killed or cast out of the group and not survive? I am simply amazed at the percentage of people that have a belief in god or a higher power, when there is absolutely no reason to believe this in terms of day to day survival needs of shelter, food, water, etc. Any ideas???

seriously, every Bible-fundie I've encountered are acting like qualified and inerrant theologians, but all they do is bash the Catholics and back their bashings with their own interpretation of the Bible.

so, my question is, is reading and listening to anti-Catholic sentiments makes you a qualified theologian?

*Note*- I am not in anyway trying to put down ANYBODY but rather trying to understand the concept of religion.

Believers say that to really feel God's love and presense(the Christian one atleast) you have to have faith. Faith is belief that is not based on proof. As we grow older ,we create dreams (and even envision)and have faith in hopes of them coming true one day. The longer we let this dream manifest, the more and more we almost know we can reach that goal and the vision gets clearer and clearer. How is this different from the belief in any type of God? Please don't say that you JUST HAVE TO BELIEVE because I've already heard enough of those. Like I said am not bashing anyone but simply trying to understand. I am agnostic but the more I think about the validity of God, the more questions seem to arise on this...Is it not the same thing, you create a vision, it manifests and it grows on?and plus with religion there is already that "foundation"..please help me understand this...

I think you are a very nice person not a troll or a reporter. Then reason I like to keep my spirits up is because I lost my only daughter two years ago. In the past 12 years I have lost my 5 older sisters, my religion tells me we will all meet again and I believe that.
Meanwhile I try not to get depressed my daughter loved jokes, and sometimes I think she is laughing at then. As for Susie Q I have unblocked you, we should not fall out as
life is too short, and again I say there was no malice meant I only did it because you didn't like what I wrote.

I have seen this assertion made by both Protestants and Catholics (!) on Y!A the past few days, and I find it suspicious.

When a Catholic becomes easily confused about his church's teaching regarding Mary, is that really any worse than a Protestant being ignorant of his own church's history?

When a Catholic thinks he is earning his salvation (as opposed to the actual Catholic teaching of *participation* in salvation), is that any worse than a Protestant thinking the sinner's prayer saved him?

When a Protestant has been taught a sales pitch, does that really give him any more genuine knowledge of his faith than a Catholic who feels evangelism is best left to those called to ministry', and so isn't practiced in the art of selling his faith?

Here's my point: If Adam and Eve were Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, would you get Denzel Washington, Mr. Miyagi, Geronimo, or Gandhi over the course of a few thousand years? Of course not!!

Of course I'm assuming Adam and Eve were Caucasian -- the same could be said if they were black (Don't forget I'd be happy to make the same comparison if Adam and Eve were black, or asian ok? I'm not racist)

What I mean is that each one of you says, "I follow Paul," or "I follow Apollos," or "I follow Peter," or "I follow Christ." Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?
1 Corinthians 1:10-13

For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? For while one says, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that plants any thing, neither he that waters; but God that gives the increase.
1 Corinthians 3:3-7

Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are your's; Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Peter, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's!
1 Corinthians 3:21-23

I am (obviously) not Roman Catholic, and do not believe in God/many of their viewpoints. However, the religion has always fascinated me. I also have to have a measure of respect for a religion that was able to last through all these years. So, are there any good books (other than the bible) or places online to learn about it? I have friends that are Roman Catholic but am fearful of asking them about it in case it sparks another religious/political debate.
