estimated timeline.
100 years ago- women are too dumb to vote.
300 years ago- blacks are property.
600 years ago- earth is flat
1000 years ago- sun rotates around the earth.

people that lived 2000 years ago would have known all of the four above facts to be true....back up the ignorance factor another 1000 years past that last one, and these are the guys writing the bible? why do we believe a single word of it?

and please don't say because it was inspired by god....who told you that? and please don't say the bible told you that. you have to see how circular that is?

People who have never read the original Texts in Sanskrit, and who do not know the difference among -Raamaha-Raamou-Raamaaha(the first lesson in Sanskrit)discuss, write books, conduct work-shops/seminars ,ask and "answer"(?!!!!!)questions on Chakra,Bakra,Takra,(m)Vakra etc and select "Best Answers" also.-even not knowing the difference between Chakra(m) and Vakra(m).There is an old adage "---- rush in where Angels fear to tread"--"Ignorance is bliss"

Me and my friends have heard of the Ouija Board (pronounced Weegie board), and all my friends who have actually played it....scary things happened to them. You can also communicate with the dead. Some boy played it, and he was "possesed by a demon and killed people." So is it against the Catholic religion to play the Ouija (weegie) Board???

Like it's not an issue unless someone brings it up? I don't question anthing... things just are the way they are. I don't idealize anything and make up reasons... sometimes I think that it would be nice to believe in a creator that will ultimately put justice to everything, but I can't believe in that. I know that there is real heartache and cruelty in humanity and it is because of people, not becaue of gods or devils or other figures.

Anyway, I just realized that recently. I really don't think about religion at all unless someone asks me about it or brings it up. The only reason I'm thinking about it now is because I came across the religion & spirituality section.

I wonder if other atheists feel the same way?

I was given a beautiful diamond ring from my boyfriend for a birthday gift. There was never a proposal, he called it a "ring, ring" Although I took it as an engagement ring, our relationship never furthered. I continued to see him (we never lived together) but I always thought we would be living together soon. Shortly after the ring was given, he told me within a year we would live together, that never happened. I felt like the ring was on my finger just to keep other men away. I loved this boyfriend, but when he was dishonest with me, and I found out, I took the ring off and we split for a few weeks. We got back together for another year or so, but he never tried to make our situation right, the only one who gave it any effort was me. So we ended up splitting, this time for good. Now he wants the ring back. Should I give it to him, or keep it because it was a birthday gift without a proposal?

The mistakes of the past are warnings for a better future, but what will happen if they are hidden from the next generations?
With such movements as the "Holocaust denial" we should be alerted to what our kids are heading to!
Even in the face of overwhelming proof, some people choose to deny such events, even when former Nazi guards (e.g. O.Groening) testify out loud that they were witnesses of the genocide!
This whole denial movement is an outrageous insult, not only to the millions of murdered Jews, but also to gays, African-Germans, and other persecuted groups. And to think that one can legaly "deny" this crime against humanity!

How can we keep this invaluable lesson to mankind alive for the coming generations when it's slowly trying to be hidden? Educating our children about the facts? Carefully protecting the thousands of witness accounts? Outlawing "denial"?

What are other things we can simply do to keep it alive?

What happened to this once-great nation? We see countries like America and Japan developing exciting new technology and launching rockets in to space. We see great sportsmen coming from all areas of the globe and thrashing the British at the very sports that we invented.
Other countries manage to cope with so much, whilst we are panicing every time we have 1/2 an inch of snow.
Our education and healthcare are suffering, whilst at the same time, even third-world countries are becoming more developed and sophisticated every day.
Has Great Britain been swallowed by a cloud of political correctness that is slowly destroying us? How have we gone from being one of the worlds super powers, to a country that couldn't even fight it's way out of a paper bag? Has Britain become a nation of under-achieving whingebags that have been too pampered?

What happened to us?

Does it bother you that the first miracle Jesus performed was turning about 150 gallons of water into wine at a Jewish wedding party – even late into the party, when people had already been freely drinking alcohol?
(John 2:6-10)

And what about Paul ENCOURAGING Timothy to drink some wine?
(1 Timothy 5:23)
-

Of course it is written:
“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit”
(Ephesians 5:18)

…so you need not quote this verse in response to my question.

But why do you condemn ALL drinking as sinful, wrong, and evil?

Are you not “adding” to the law…just like those former hypocritical blind guides, fools, white-washed tombs, serpents, and brood of vipers that Jesus condemned with woes?!?
(Matthew 23:13-33)

im trying to find out what god is and what god could be, but the more i look at religion the more religion makes god seem like an all powerfull man. i dont believe god is any of the things he has been portayed as in religoin. i dont know what god is but i think it is posibble to find evidence for him outside of religion.

just wanted to share a poem i wrote (my first after a 20plus year lapse in writing poems): Innocence Returned

mine heart rejoice in magical serenity, conjured
fairies tread softly beside me,companions of my youth
incorrigible,laughter reverberating, tranquil
innocence intermingled with gaiety
i am young,i am loved,i bounce!

mine eyes amplified, enforced awareness, acquisition
of knowledge reluctantly gained,buoyancy flees
unabated, inwardly innocence betrayed, palpable
fears undefined pulsating heinously
i am young, i am lost, i succumb

mine ears rumble,indiscriminately defiant
enchantment renounced unwittingly, disintegrated
laughter, sanctuary defiled mercilessly
confusion, revulsion, self-loathing
i am young, i am angry, i am defunct

mine spirit renewed, umbrage dispelled willingly
omnipotent arms embracing, poignant
comforting turbulent waters, transversed, repentant
innocence returned, indebted, delivered, reverent
i was lost, i am found, i am loved!!

It seems to me that many churches are frequently telling Christian guys that they need to be more loving and kind and gentle i.e. feminine. They are almost always giving them challenges on Father's day while Thanking the mothers on Mother's day. It does seem to be lopsided to me - not very favorable towards men. What do you think? Has the pendelum swung over to being Pro-women and Anti-men in many or most churches or am I just full of it? Any thoughts welcomed as long as they're respectful! :)
